Toshiba will deliver 13 new HDTVs in its Regza line of LCD flat-panel models in 2007, including some as large as 52 and 57 inches.

The company highlighted five updated technologies that it hopes will distinguish its Regza LCDs from the increasingly fierce competition in the flat-panel arena. Toshiba has expanded its lineup of HD DVD players from two to three with the newly announced HD-A20. The new model sits between the already available second-generation players, the $500 HD-A2 and the $1,000 HD-XA2. In fact, except for the addition of 1080p output via HDMI and some minor cosmetic changes, the features of the A20 seem to be nearly identical to the A2, which we've already reviewed in depth. Until recently, Toshiba has been content to remain somewhat behind the scenes, populating millions upon millions of consumer electronics devices with its tiny hard drives. But it seems the company wants a piece of the branded market: Toshiba announced today its first line of personal storage products, the blandly named Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive.

Like so many people, we seem to have a Segway fixation. And, as with so many people, it makes absolutely no sense. Then again, abormal fixations rarely do.

We like to call it "pocket home theater," but the truth is, Toshiba's just-announced TDP-FF1AU "palm-size" mobile projector ($699 list price) is probably more suited for mobile business use than for home or mobile entertainment. Still, Toshiba is marketing this "long-awaited" one-pound projector with both a business and digital-entertainment tag.
