Isis mobile payment service hits snag, delays trial run

Isis won't be launching its mobile payment trials at the end of summer.

Isis, which is a joint venture between Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile USA, told CNET today that it was delaying the start of its trials, which were scheduled to start this month in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas.

T-Mobile intros Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G on Sept. 19

More details emerged today about T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G Android 4.0 slider phone, specifically that the Relay will be available on September 19 for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate card, and with a new two-year service agreement.

The successor to the Galaxy S Blaze 4G will feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4-inch super AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-camera. It runs off a 1.5-GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It has 8GB of onboard storage, and takes up to 32GB in external memory.… Read more

Toys 'R' Us takes on tablets with Tabeo

Toys "R" Us has created it's own tablet designed for kids, called Tabeo. It goes on sale in stores Oct. 21 for $150, but the store is now taking preorders online. This kid-safe tablet comes with 50 apps pre-installed for games, education, reading -- even apps for cooking and editing photos. And there's 7,000 more apps available in an app store. T-Mobile USA badly wants to be known as an iPhone carrier, even if it doesn't actually sell the iPhone.

The nation's fourth-largest national carrier, and one of the few that doesn't offer Apple's smash-hit product, plans a big campaign to get iPhone users to switch over to its less-expensive service plans.

T-Mobile has long quietly welcomed unlocked iPhones, but it soon plans to dispense with the subtlety. Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G to hit T-Mobile in coming weeks

The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G smartphone now has an official U.S. launch date, or rather a launch timeframe.

The Korean handset maker said today that the phone will appear on T-Mobile's network sometime in the coming weeks. T-Mobile subscribers will be able to order the phone through the carrier's retail outlets, certain third-party stores, and online through T-Mobile's site.

Initially known as the Galaxy S Blaze Q, the phone was rechristened with its current moniker last month. The Relay 4G was also allegedly supposed to reach consumers in August.

Samsung Galaxy S2 available at Wal-Mart with no annual contract

T-Mobile subscribers can now pick up a Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone through Wal-Mart with no annual contract required.

To grab that deal, you buy the Galaxy S2 for $299 and then pair it with a T-Mobile Monthly4G plan for a minimum of $30 per month. The Monthly4G plan offers unlimited Internet access with the first 5GB of data at 4G speeds, unlimited text, and 100 minutes of talk time with a charge of 10 cents per minute beyond the first 100 minutes.

But with no annual commitment, customers are free to cancel at any time.

Isis mobile payment venture to launch next month

ISIS, a joint venture between the wireless carriers to usher in a mobile-payment system, is poised to launch in two trial markets in September.

That's according to Doug Bergeron, CEO of Verifone, which makes the payment terminals that most mobile-payment systems rely on. Bergeron confirmed the month to CNET, although he declined to provide a specific date. Bloomberg earlier reported on ISIS' launch time.

Bergeron was optimistic about the prospects for ISIS.

T-Mobile reportedly prepping for new iPhone offensive

T-Mobile is apparently already prepping to battle the iPhone 5 on September 21.

Published by blog site TmoNews, an internal memo allegedly from T-Mobile reveals upcoming training material to help workers sell against the iPhone.

The memo discusses a Grab & Go suite available through the company's electronic learning system. It also refers to a mobile game designed to help employees practice their sales skills. But even more significant is the date.

T-Mobile announces contract-free T-Mobile Concord

Today, T-Mobile unveiled its no-contract, entry-level Android device tailored to first-time smartphone users. Manufactured by ZTE, the T-Mobile Concord will sport a 2-megapixel camera, ship natively with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and will be equipped with a 3.5-inch touch-screen display.

Interested users can get their hands on it now at Wal-Mart, for $99.98, along with a Wal-Mart Family Mobile no annual contract plan. Starting August 26, the Concord will be sold at Target for $99.99, with a Monthly4G plan. Unfortunately, the Concord is not a 4G-enabled device.
