Android 4.1 may be heading to Samsung's Galaxy S3 as early as next month.

Samsung has confirmed the Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S3 as soon as October, according to a story from CNET UK. The company reportedly told CNET UK directly that "the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system will be available on the Galaxy S3 from October."

In the U.S., however, CNET couldn't get Samsung to spill the same beans.

Samsung: Galaxy S3 sales to surpass 30 million this year

Samsung believes its Galaxy S3 is on its way to more than 30 million in global sales by year's end, according to a report from the Yonhap News Agency.

Samsung's IT and mobile unit chief Shin Jong-kyun announced the forecast to reporters today at the company's offices in Seoul. This tidbit comes on the heels of news that Samsung sold 20 million Galaxy S3 phones in the 100 days since its debut in May.

Verizon debuts security app to battle malware on Android

There's been a lot of news lately on how Android mobile devices are malware's new favorite victims. While Google has been working to beef up security for its mobile OS, wireless carriers are also pitching in.

Verizon announced the launch of its McAfee "Mobile Security" app for Android today, which aims to help subscribers protect stored data on their smartphones. More specifically the paid version of the app lets users remotely locate, alarm, lock, and wipe data from their device.

Samsung sells 20 million Galaxy S3s, adds new colors

Samsung clinched the global impact today of its flagship phone today, announcing that its Samsung Galaxy S3 (S III) has sold 20 million units globally in the 100 days since its May release.

Samsung is calling the sales of its most successful smartphone so far "record-setting."

To put things into perspective, Samsung's Galaxy S II sold 5 million units globally in the first 85 days, and 10 million units after five months, Samsung confirmed with CNET. In 100 days, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has already doubled the sales of its predecessor after five months.

Galaxy S3 sales soar to 20M in 100 days, Samsung says

Samsung said its global sales of the recently released Galaxy S3 smartphone have hit the 20 million mark in just over three months.

The long-awaited smartphone's rollout to the masses was initially hampered by delays and supply chain issues. It launched in Europe on May 29, but was only brought to the U.S. market in mid-June after major carriers held back on selling what few devices it had due to "manufacturer supply constraints."

Android, Apple capture still more U.S. smartphone users

Android and Apple continue to bite bigger hunks out of the U.S. smartphone market.

As of the three months ended July, Google's mobile OS held a 52.2 percent share of the market, a gain of 1.4 points from the prior three months, ComScore said today. In second place, Apple's iOS grabbed 33.4 percent of the market, up 2 points from the prior period.

That left the rest of the top five platforms still spinning down the drain.

Samsung: Galaxy S3 inspired by 'sparkling' pebbles, forest stroll

Samsung's Galaxy S3 is a high-tech product, but its design was meant to reflect the simplicity of nature, at least according to the company.

Video shows purported iPhone 5 internals, front plate

So much for post-product-release teardowns. The iPhone 5 is being torn down piece by piece already.

Just after alleged photos of the iPhone 5's main circuit board appeared, we now have a video of not only the front plate but items as small as the "flex cable," replete with the sleep-wake button and volume switch, according to SmartPhone Medic, a smartphone repair service based in Columbia, S.C.

LG starts making 4-inch display maybe destined for iPhone 5

LG Display has begun to make a display that could be slated for the iPhone 5, according to a Reuters report.

"We just began mass production and we don't expect any disruption in supplies," Han Sang-beom, chief executive of LG Display, told reporters Wednesday, according to Reuters.

LGD, along with Samsung, are the two principal display suppliers for Apple's marquee products, such as the iPhone and iPad.

A 3D rendering of Apple's next iPhone?

Rumors have abounded, images have been leaked, and today a video was released that showed all the speculative features and components of the upcoming iPhone 5.

The video, found by RazorianFly, based the iPhone design on various leaks from Asian site iLab Factory. The iPhone shows a longer and thinner screen, far fewer pin dock connector, and what looks to be a "unibody."
