Apple to hold iPhone 5 event on-campus, ATD says

Apple will unveil the next incarnation of the iPhone on its corporate campus in Cupertino, Calif., instead of in San Francisco, All Things Digital is reporting.

Citing unnamed sources, ATD's John Paczkowski says the October 4 event will go down at Apple's Town Hall Auditorium and that it's not clear why the change is being made this time around.

Could it be, Paczkowski wonders, that setting the final date was too fluid a proposition to make it practical for Apple to book one of its usual venues in advance? Perhaps the venues were already taken, or maybe Apple simply wanted a more intimate setting, he adds.

In any case, the news, if true, helps support ATD's earlier report of the actual October 4 date--CNET's Josh Lowensohn has noted that Apple's usual product-launch venues, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Moscone Center, both in San Francisco, are reserved that week as part of Oracle's OracleWorld confab.… Read more

iPhone 5 to debut Oct. 4, ATD says

Apple will debut its iPhone 5 on October 4, with new Chief Executive Tim Cook leading the show, All Things Digital reported today.

The report, citing unnamed sources close to the situation, said the new iPhone itself would go on sale "within a few weeks" of the announcement.

Rumors have swirled for months about when exactly the new iPhone would arrive, with October looking increasingly likely.

DC Comics doubles down on digital

Comic books--or at least, the superhero comics that have been a mainstay of American youth culture for 70 years--have been in a crisis. Comics sales were plummeting, direct market brick-and-mortar comic book shops that are essentially the only outlet to purchase the monthly issues of said comics were closing under the recessive economy, and the industry was in desperate need of new readers. With its new day-and-date digital initiative and line-wide reboot, DC Comics might've provided just that.

Woman settles in Match.com sexual assault lawsuit

A woman who sued Match.com claiming she was sexually assaulted on a date has settled her lawsuit after seeing proof that the site now screens its members for sexual predators, according to the Associated Press.

Carole Markin had sued the online dating site in April following the reported assault after learning that her date had previously been convicted of sexual battery. Rather than seeking financial damages, Markin's lawsuit asked that Match.com start reviewing its membership for signs of sexual predators.

Shortly after the suit was filed, the dating service announced a new policy whereby it would check its members against a national sex offenders registry. … Read more
