On sheer quantity Pittsburgh's Gregg Gillis outsamples them all--his track "Too Deep" culls the Beatles, the Smashing Pumpkins, Phantom Planet's "O.C." theme, and a stack of vinyl in between. The restless remixing can be a bit scattered, but it's a grandly entertaining mess.

Wiseguys' Theo Keating melds deceptive dance-style tracks with Simian Mobile Disco's Simon Lord's sinister lyrics that alchemically transmute the otherwise alluring dance-pop elements. When one thinks of haunting music, U.K.-based electro doesn't immediately come to mind though The Black Ghosts are stepping up the creepy noir factor with each and every psychotically romantic track.
Inspired by beaches, ocean and sun, Pacific! seeks to remind us sonically about the stuff we love scenically. The pair that make up Pacific! are electronic music light bearers who sound more like Daft Punk-loving French producers than Swedes who dream about the sea.

Somewhere out there, a member of the Aussie-based Presets is sulking, wondering why another of their countrymen had to come along and steal away all the shine. Midnight Juggernauts are straight out of Melbourne, and their nu-disco-meets-indie flavor recalls something like a mashing of Giorgio Moroder, Air, and Phoenix. Way to go, mates.
Yelle says she sings in "80's French"--which sounds kind of confusing until you hear her punky electro tracks that remind us of Stereo Totale and Electrocute. If a Galaga machine could sing a song, it might come out a bit like Ratatat's latest. "LP3" turns to keyboards, spewing forth a pile of vintage effects. But the disc is much more than a catalogue of funny noises. In the hands of these two, retro blips can be the stuff of a ballad.
