At the recent Detroit auto show, Chrysler announced a road map for connecting cars to the Internet. In the near term, the company is looking at using cellular and Wi-Fi for data connections into cars. Chrysler is also looking into WiMax as a future solution. In its press release, Chrysler mentioned it would use an Internet connection into the car for the following services:Turn-by-turn navigation combined with satellite imagery to provide more realistic maps Automatic wireless map updates, to ensure that drivers will always have the most up-to-date map information. We looked at our most recent car reviews and selected the ones that showed the best MP3 player integration. We've found great iPod integration, where we can see and play all of our music on the car's stereo. Some cars even have built-in MP3 players, letting us rip CDs to their music servers. And then there is the completely wonderful Ford Sync system, which is far and above the best way to integrate an MP3 player and a car.

Having already capitalized on the green movement, electric car maker Zap is hitching its star to another unstoppable trend: the iPod. At CES and the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, Ford will show off its next generation navigation system, initially to be made available on the all-new Lincoln MKS. Microsoft's product marketing tends to be fairly dull. Even inside the company, its methods for naming, marketing, and packaging have been the subject of scorn and derision.
So, that makes this commercial for its Sync in-car entertainment system all the more noteworthy.
The company illustrates the power of the system's voice controls, by showing what happens when you take those commands beyond the car.
It's a good approach to explaining a whole new type of technology--something that is often tough--just ask TiVo.
