Yahoo Messenger for Android 1.4 Review

Those users who have a messenger account on their computers may need an application for their smartphones. Yahoo Messenger for Android, while simple and with limited functions, is a well-thought-out chat manager.

Available as a free application, no payments are required to use the application, but users must have or be willing to sign up for a Yahoo account. Download completed quickly, as did installation. Technical support was available for reporting bugs. At startup, the application prompts the user to sign in to their Yahoo account, which synced quickly during testing. Users can also link to Facebook accounts to add … Read more

If you have used the new Yahoo Weather app for any amount of time, then you've seen the beautiful photos it displays to match a location, time of day, and current conditions. Getting started with the Yahoo Weather app

It's not often you come across a new app that deserves consideration for a spot on your iPhone's home screen, but the new Yahoo Weather for most likely will have people giving your current weather apps the boot. I use a mix of the stock iPhone weather app and The Weather Channel app, but will now turn to the Yahoo Weather app first.

The most interesting feature of the Yahoo Weather app is its integration with Yahoo-owned Flickr. It features Flickr photos to match not only the location you are looking at, but also the time of day … Read more

Yahoo tries to freshen up, kills a bunch of products

Yahoo is doing some spring cleaning. The company announced its plans on Friday to shut down several products, including Yahoo Deals, Yahoo SMS Alerts, and the Yahoo Mail and Messenger apps used on feature phones.

It's all about getting rid of the old to make room for the new, according to Jay Rossiter, Yahoo's executive vice president in charge of platforms, who wrote about the changes in a blog entry.

"We want to bring you experiences that inspire and entertain you every day," Rossiter wrote. "That means taking a hard look at all of our … Read more

Yahoo launches Mail app for iPad, Android tablets

Yahoo on Thursday released a Mail app for iOS and Android tablet users and a Weather app for iPhone owners.

A Yahoo Mail app has already been in play for the iPhone and Android smartphones, but the new version takes advantage of the larger screen size of tablets. A full-screen reading mode lets you flip through your e-mail messages as if you were reading a magazine.

Flipping through messages this way feels so much more natural than having to tap on each e-mail in the inbox to read it, especially on a tablet. It's an innovative and welcome approach, … Read more

Marissa Mayer is sprinting and trying to start a chain reaction. That's how she described her plan to return Yahoo to its former glory during the company's first-quarter 2013 earnings call.

The Yahoo CEO shared how she is executing a series of "sprints" to revive the company. The first sprint, which Mayer said is now over, was about recharging Yahoo's culture and getting employees to believe in the company's future. Yahoo Q1: Revenue disappoints as display ads dive

Shares of Yahoo fell sharply in after-hours trading today after the company's first-quarter earnings revealed a sharp fall in display advertising revenue.

Apple, Yahoo said to be cozying up for more iOS services

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. And in the case of Apple and Yahoo, Google is most definitely that company for the two.

So it makes sense that Apple and Yahoo might deepen their partnership, which is just what's happening, says The Wall Street Journal (subscription required).

In a somewhat vague report, the Journal says the two companies have been in talks to bring more of Yahoo's content and services to Apple's devices. That's on top of what's already there, a list that includes weather, sports scores, stock information, and Web search in … Read more
