Joining Best Buy and RadioShack, T-Mobile is now taking preorders for its first HSPA+ smartphone, the T-Mobile G2. Preorders are limited to current T-Mobile customers, though. You must reserve your phone by October 4 in order to receive it on October 6, which is when the G2 will be available in stores nationwide. T-Mobile did not disclose the price of the handset, but we suspect it will be around $199.99 with contract. Best Buy is selling the smartphone at that price point but so far RadioShack has the best deal at $149.99.
HTC is planning a big brouhaha on Wednesday in London to unveil the latest thing that it has "dreamt up." We don't know for sure what the company has up its sleeve, but Android should be the flavor of the day. Specifically, look for news about the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z, which is the European equivalent of the T-Mobile G2. That's all we can saw for now, but HTC spokesman Erin Lin promised via Twitter earlier this week that it should be a good show.
The fun begins 12 p.m. London … Read more
Last week, T-Mobile officially introduced the T-Mobile G2 but the carrier failed to point out two key things: pricing and availability date. However, that hasn't stopped other retailers from revealing such information and getting a jump on preorders.
Best Buy began taking orders for the G2 on Friday with a price point of $199.99 with a new two-year contract. Preorders must be placed in Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile stores and will available for pickup on October 6. But how's this for a little friendly competition?

The carrier posted additional specs on its T-Mobile Scoop Web site that indicates the smartphone will ship running Android 2.2 with Adobe Flash Player 10.1, and it looks like you'll get the stock Android skin, even though the device is made by HTC. It appears that the first official images of the forthcoming T-Mobile G2 have found their way online. And I like what I see so far. Besides looking very polished in its T-Mobile branding, the phone features a spacious four-row slideout QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad, in addition to the four soft buttons across the bottom.
Given the rumored 1GHz processor, 3.7-inch display, and 5-megapixel camera, the G2 will have hardware that puts it in the same pack as the Motorola Droid 2 and Samsung Epic 4G. Toss in a stock Android 2.2 experience and support for T-Mobile'… Read more
