Flickr adds in-browser uploading for Android

Android users looking to upload photos and videos to Flickr now have a new way to do it. Today the company rolled out an enhanced version of its m.flickr.com mobile site that lets users upload within Android's browser.

This behavior should be familiar to desktop users of Flickr, though on mobile phones this process hasn't exactly been carried along for the ride. Flickr tallies 5 billion photos

Flickr is now hosting more than 5 billion photos, the company announced on its blog yesterday.

According to the Yahoo-owned photo site, user "yeoaaron" uploaded the site's 5 billionth photo on Saturday. The image shows the Woodwards Collage in Vancouver, B.C.

Flickr says more than 3,000 images are uploaded to the site every minute. It reached 2 billion photos in 2007. It hit the 3 billion mark a year later in 2008.

NASA brings historic photos to Flickr Commons

NASA is now providing images detailing its early years on Flickr's Commons archive, the space agency announced on Monday.

NASA's new Commons page displays nearly 200 photos taken throughout the venerable organization's early history. They're arranged in three photo sets, including "Building NASA," "Launch/Takeoff," and "NASA Center Namesakes."

Flickr's photo page redesign now live for all

Flickr's redesigned homepage, which increased the size of photos as well as moving and highlighting several of the service's features, is now live to all users.

The new look was launched as an opt-in beta back in late June. Back then, Matthew Rothenberg who is Flickr's head of product, told CNET that the plan was to roll it out to everyone after a month of testing. Just a week late on that estimate, the company now says it's been released to 100 percent of users as the default style.

General Motors launched a new social-media advertising campaign, including a new Web site, to promote the 2011 Buick Regal.

"We are inviting consumers to find out on their own that Regal is a true performance sedan and worthy of their consideration," said Craig Bierley, Buick advertising director. "We are making it easy for the consumer to get unbiased opinions in one online location."

Lightroom plug-in helps avoid overlarge JPEGs

It's a fair question for photography enthusiasts uploading their latest shots to the Web or backing up an archive: where do you set the JPEG quality slider?

Flickr goes wider, gets faster with redesign

Flickr is unveiling a dramatic face lift on Wednesday that takes the Yahoo-owned photo-sharing site into the wide-screen era. Both photo pages and the site's home page have been stretched out to accommodate users with wider screens, as well as to put more of an emphasis on what users have uploaded.
