Up substantially from the 7.6 million tablets likely to ship this year, that forecast points to a compound annual growth rate of 57.4 percent. The Android-powered Apple iPad contender has a 7-inch resistive touch screen, a 600MHz ARM 9 processor, and 8GB of internal memory; however, the Archos doesn't have the muscle to beat Apple on specs. But with a retail price of $199, it may be able to win over your wallet.
Apple's iPad is apparently a big seller even before hitting its retail release date. So if you didn't preorder, reserve a unit, or plan to line up at 5 a.m. outside your local Best Buy (which will carry iPads in 600-plus stores), it's time to start considering your touch-screen options.
