Belkin FlyThru: Another checkpoint-friendly bag

Back in September, Dan Ackerman reviewed two of the new airport checkpoint-friendly laptop bags, one from Targus, one from CODi. And while there are a few more on the market, the only one announced Monday was this one from Belkin.

Available now in the U.S. for $59.99, the FlyThru puts your laptop off by itself on one side while accessories and your other miscellany are off on the other side. It just unzips and lays flat on the belt as it takes a ride through the screener.

This year still has several weeks left on the calendar, but it's not too early to look back at the past 10 months and evaluate how we've progressed on the consumer tech front. Rather than look at the best products of the year, however, I decided to focus on the ones that were the most cutting-edge. Belkin GoStudio is professional and a good value

The Belkin GoStudio is one of the more professional audio recording accessories we've seen for the iPod. At around $120, it's also one of the cheapest ways to make uncompressed stereo recordings--period. Last week, we put the GoStudio through its paces by recording everything we could think of (piano, bad karaoke, street sounds, electric guitar, drippy faucets, old records, barking dogs) with its impressive combination of XLR, minijack, and 1/4-inch inputs, as well as its own built-in stereo microphones.

Belkin Universal Media Reader handles 1, 2, 3, 4...56 different cards!

It's true, despite only having six slots, this upcoming Universal Media Reader from Belkin is capable of reading 56 different memory cards. No adapters are necessary either, so no hunting for that full-size SD adapter for a miniSD or microSD card.

The Reader will be available in black or white models and each includes 1-foot and 5-foot USB cables making travel a little easier. Belkin to release new networking products

I remember Belkin was the first vendor who sent us a Pre-N router, the Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router way back in 2004. Ever since, it hasn't been the most prolific vendor in wireless networking in comparison with D-Link, Linksys, or Netgear.

However, I've learned recently that in October Belkin is releasing a few new networking products, including the all new Belkin N+ Wireless Router and the Powerline AV+.

Belkin doubles down on wireless HDMI

Belkin today announced the pricing and planned availability for its FlyWire wireless HDMI accessory. The unit will eventually be available in two separate versions: a $1,500 multi-room unit set to hit in October, and a stepdown $700 model dubbed the R1, which is intended for single-room installations.

TheFlyWire wireless HDMI kit garnered a nomination for the Best of CES Awards back in January, where it successfully demonstrated the ability to wirelessly transmit uncompressed high-definition video and audio. (See a CNET TV video of the FlyWire in action after the break.)… Read more
