Webware Radar: Survey: 80 percent of Web users want privacy

Burst Media, a company that provides advertising services to Web publishers, announced the results of a survey Thursday, which asked 4,000 Web users how online privacy impacts their Internet experience. It found that privacy is a major concern for 80.1 percent of respondents who claim they want their personal information kept private.

Although privacy is a major concern for all age groups, only 67.3 percent of respondents aged 18 to 24 years worry about privacy, while 85.7 percent of those aged 55 years and older are concerned about their privacy online. Of those surveyed, 62.5 … Read more

iPhone clock radio claims to rise above the din

One wonders what would become of iHome if Apple suddenly stopped making products. Sometimes it seems to have created a cottage industry all by itself with an endless supply of i-accessories, from lamps to bike speakers.

Its latest offering is the iP99, yet another alarm-clock radio dock with stereo drivers, remote, adjustable snooze function, and high-contrast but dimmable LCD, according to iLounge. Philips' Xenium phone gets a touch screen

Late last year Philips made headlines with a Xenium 9@9 phone that could last for two months on standby, and the handset has another new trick in its latest version--a touch screen.

When the Xenium 9@9v makes its way to Asia next month, it will one of only a handful of touch-screen phones on the market (PDAs excluded). According to the literature, the handset uses handwriting-recognition software that converts doodles into SMS text so you can actually scribble out your messages.

Sprint raises stakes in the $99.99 unlimited battle

Sprint Nextel upped the ante in the $99.99 all-you-can-eat rate plan battle Thursday by introducing a service that includes unlimited voice as well as unlimited data and slew of premium services.

Called "Simply Everything," the plan will give customers unlimited voice as well as unlimited data, text, e-mail, Web-surfing, Sprint TV, Sprint Music, GPS Navigation, and push-to-talk service for $99.99 a month. The company made the announcement during its fourth-quarter earnings call, in which the company also announced heavy financial and customer losses.

Haier's dual SIM card phone

Haier's booth was way in the back of one of the halls at CES, but we wanted to swing by to see if (and when) the company would be bringing its cell phones to the United States. The PR rep wasn't exactly forthcoming, but we did get a brief tour of the models the company is hoping to bring here. The most interesting of the bunch was the HG-N99, and we can only hope that it actually arrives on our shores (Haier says it is in talks with U.S. carriers).

Philips wants you to talk forever

We're still waiting for Sony to hurry up and develop that sugar-powered battery for our mobile phones, but something like this might have to suffice in the meantime.

Philips is developing a handset for the Asian market that it says will provide 17 hours of talk time on a single charge and, on standby, will last for two months, according to SCI FI Tech. And it doesn't look like one of those one of those industrial-strength survival radios either.

The shoe phone lives!

Maxwell Smart would be so proud. While we've seen other high-tech uses for footwear, most notably GPS devices, what we've really craved is an authentic shoe phone.

So even though we'd prefer that it come in the form of an oxford or loafer, we'd be happy to have a tennis shoe version like this Sports Illustrated collectible found by Red Ferret. Unfortunately, it's corded, which would definitely put a crimp in our sit-com spying missions. But for top-secret conversations in person, we at least have the "Cone of Silence."
