Android 4.0 reaching two LG Optimus smartphones in June

Some LG smartphone owners will be receiving the latest version of Android early next month.

An LG Korean news item (English translation) points to the Optimus LTE Tag and the Optimus Vu as getting a dollop of Ice Cream Sandwich -- aka Android 4.0 -- starting on June 4.

As Engadget points out, it's a bit tough to decipher the Google translation. But the update appears to include LG's Optimus UI 3.0, which runs on top of Android 4.0. Owners of the Optimus Vu will also receive "additional features."

Chameleon aims to amaze the Android tablet experience

Ottawa design firm Teknision created Chameleon with the intent of injecting some serious style into the Android home screen and app launcher, and it sure did a heck of a job.

Perhaps what separates the Chameleon from the rest, aside from the layout, are the multiple home screens that can change based on a particular setting. For example, after waking up in the morning, the associated home screen displays weather, feeds, and so on. When you go to work, Chameleon detects the location via GPS and displays e-mail, tasks, calendar, etc. Later, after settling in for the evening, Chameleon could display things such as social media and multimedia content.

Motorola clarifies Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule

At some point within the next four to six weeks, Motorola plans to deploy Android 4.0 to the Droid Razr, Droid Razr Maxx, and Xoom 3G/4G LTE.

According to the company's recently updated owner's forum, the three models will see Ice Cream Sandwich by the second quarter of this year. Also, in the second half of the year, Motorola now expects to issue the update to the Droid Bionic, Droid 4, and Xyboard tablets.

Samsung Galaxy S II LTE getting bite of Ice Cream Sandwich

Owners of Samsung's Galaxy S II LTE model can now expect to unwrap their Ice Cream Sandwich.

The company's Korean Samsung Tomorrow Web site (English translation) today published an upgrade guide confirming and explaining the path from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0.

Users will receive the typical update notice on their phones, according to Samsung, which also described what becomes of your data and applications after the latest version of Android is installed. The package will include the latest tweaks to Samsung's TouchWiz interface with some extra flavoring on top of Ice Cream Sandwich.

T-Mobile to scoop Android 4.0 update to HTC Sensation 4G

After a number of delays and just a bit of finger-pointing, T-Mobile finally is set to deliver Android 4.0 to the HTC Sensation 4G.

Samsung starts Android 4.0 rollout for Galaxy Note, reports say

Samsung has started to roll out Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to Galaxy Notes in Europe, according to several reports.

News of the rollout originated from Devin Balentina, a Netherlands-based Galaxy Note owner. Balentina, whose tweet was first discovered by The Verge, posted an image of the software update alert, which includes mention of a host of upgrades, including the new S Note App's "advanced note-taking [and] productivity tools." The update also includes the S Memo Widget, and a host of other improvements.

Sony's Tablet S flavored with Ice Cream Sandwich

Sony's Tablet S has a new flavor.

The company announced today that the tablet, which boasts a 9.4-inch screen and support for a host of Sony services like Music Unlimited, is now upgradeable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The next time Tablet S owners connect to a Wi-Fi network, they'll be prompted to update the software, Sony says.

Ice Cream Sandwich flavoring Acer A100, A500 next week

Owners of Acer's Iconia Tab A100 and A500 tablets can look forward to a dollop of Ice Cream Sandwich in another week and a half.

An Acer support document confirmed that the two tablets are scheduled be on the receiving end of Android 4.0 in the U.S. on April 27. Other countries, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Latin America, will also receive the update on or around the same time, but all updates should be out and about by the first week of May.
