ASUS dominating Netbooks--touch screen on the horizon

In a recent interview with Laptop Mag, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen provided some highlights of the existing product sales and what we'll see in the future.

The future includes laptops starting at $250, touch screens and more.

A really cheap Netbook

When I wrote an introduction to Netbooks a couple days ago, I mentioned some of the cheaper models but didn't include any from Asus. From what I'd read, their keyboards were on the smallish side, so that ruled them out for my adult fingers.

But I just ran across two Linux based Asus Eee PCs, model 900, selling for only $300, a price that forgives a multitude of sins.

Virus prompts Asus to recall Japanese Eee Box PCs

You click OK on a message while surfing the Internet and suddenly your computer is full of malicious software and viruses. That's bad. What could be worse worse, however, is when your brand new computer comes preloaded with malicious software.

Tuesday, according to ChinaTechNews.com, Asus announced a recall of it's Asus Eee Box PCs that it had sold in Japan because it was shipped with a virus.

Touch screens are coming to Eee PC Netbooks next year, but you only need to wait until next month if you require a touch screen on an Asus all-in-one PC--and live in England. British retailer Play.com is taking preorders for the Eee All-in-One Touch-Screen PC. It's priced at ?399.99 ($681) with a ship date of November 20. Because of their small size and inexpensive nature, Netbooks are hot items right now. Asus' Eee PC is one of the more recognizable lines available.
