Fashion for gadgets, Singapore-style

Accessorizing gadgets is an addiction, and it can sometimes be a chore as well. Finding the right bag, sleeve, case, or even screen protector for your music player or notebook can be a harder decision than choosing the device being protected. Here's another company that may complicate the decision even further: Fabrix, a made-in-Singapore brand of cases for tech products.

Fabrix seems to have its focus on design. For example, all its iPod cases are slip cases, which mean you have to remove the player to view a video or to change the volume--a no-no for people who'd … Read more

Leave the tripod at home

Typically, when you can place your camera on a flat plane to take a shot, you probably can't angle your camera very easily. Here's where the Stand Pouch comes in handy.

The Stand Pouch is essentially a camera case with a tripod connector built into the front panel. But the connector can be tilted to different angles like a three-legged stand.

According to the demonstration video on its Web site, you just have to flip the connector out and screw it into the camera's base. Instant tripod.

Laptop sleeve is a hoarder's worst enemy

This is one of those items that might look goofy at first but then, after some thought, might just make sense. All too often, messenger bags and other laptop totes are just excuses to carry around junk you don't really need. That can result in scratches and dents to your computer or, far worse, a bag that's so heavy it gets dropped or topples off a desk because of gross weight imbalance.

For the true road warrior who survives with only the essentials, the Cargo Laptop Sleeve from Built NY provides space for all the gear that's … Read more

Battle of the iPhone Touch cases

The Xylo "Touch Thru" hard-shell iPhone case we wrote of earlier this week boasted that it was "the first of its kind," but we're always dubious of such claims in the hype-driven gadget universe. Sure enough, just a few days later Uncrate is featuring a similar product from Case-Mate called the "Naked Case" that goes for the same price.

Other than bearing a far more provocative name, this acrylic case appears to do the same things its rival promises--allowing touch-screen access through a clear protective cover. (Case-Mate credits its "electrostatic membrane" … Read more

One iPod Nano, medium rare

We at Crave enjoy a good steak as much as anyone, but just the sight of this thing is enough to clog the arteries of the most dedicated carnivore. No ordinary iPod case, it's made to resemble Japan's famed Kobe beef.

It figures that this was made by SolidAlliance, the company that has brought us gems ranging from a disco ball mouse to a UFO-detecting strap. We've got to hand it to their detailed eye: Even the packaging resembles a real slab of beef, complete with a Styrofoam-looking tray and weight label with bar code.

And we … Read more

MacBook Air gets an Italian wardrobe

If you're in the market for a MacBook Air case and aren't thrilled with the interoffice-envelope look--of either the vinyl or leather variety--there's another way to tote your precious cargo in style.

Orbino, which has brought the art of Italian design to Apple products before, has created an ultra-slim shoulder bag for the ultra-slim laptop. Called the "Arista," this handmade case comes in a variety of leather finishes ranging from "Burnished Whiskey" to "Deep Red Tuscan" (pictured).

These anorexic Italian models don't come cheap, of course--they start at $349. So … Read more

The laptop case that's all strap, no bag

Are you one of those people who always holds up the security line at the airport, struggling to get your laptop out of its case? (Or like us, do you cast dirty looks at those people, while cooling your heels in line behind them?)

The LapStrap is an idea that's either pure genius or the most ridiculous thing we've ever seen. It's a padded nylon shoulder strap, like the kind found on most laptop cases, that attaches directly to your laptop. The company's pitch is, "Security lines...made easy!"

The bottom part of the … Read more

'Touch Thru' case works with iPhone screen

If you've run out of OCD meds and can't use your iPhone because the fingerprint smudges are more than you can bear, don't throw it (or yourself) off the bridge just yet.

Ivyskin's "Xylo Touch Thru (T2)" hard-shell polycarbonate case may not banish all greasy prints, but it will at least keep them from the iPhone's screen surface, according to Dvice. That's because the case covers the display as well as the body of the phone, using "Surface Xylo Wave" technology that claims to send ultrasonic signals from your fingers … Read more

Magnets keep iPod with (and on) you 24/7

This is a must-have accessory for the music lover who can't stand to be apart from the iPod but doesn't have any pockets. The "iStik" is a plastic case with four magnets that attaches to a corresponding set mounted on a plastic plate that goes underneath your clothes, so you can literally wear the player.

How much of a demand is there for something like this? We have no idea, but it's probably not a good sign that the iStik is available only for the second-generation Nano, as iLounge says. You could also get a … Read more

Griffin tries to boost iPhone in a stubby way

Something tells us that Steve Jobs' delicate sensibilities might be offended by Griffin's new "ClearBoost" case for the iPhone, mainly because its built-in antenna ruins the clean lines of the fashion-conscious uber-handset. And while the case deserves credit for addressing functionality rather than just aesthetics (unlike many other unfortunate versions), its reception claims are yet to be seen in any significant way.

The protruding stub, according to Griffin, results in "a better signal, especially in border areas--which translates to fewer dropped calls, wider coverage areas, and faster downloads when browsing through your cellular connection." But … Read more
