You should see the mess of cables, chargers, and charging cables that clutter my backpack every day. Moving from car to car and home to work while testing a variety of devices means that iPod sync cables, USB cables, Mini- and Micro-USB cables for mobile phones and GPS devices, 12-volt car chargers, and 110-volt wall chargers eat up a good deal of my bag space. For me, this is why Scosche's PowerFuze charger system looks interesting. This charging solution should let you replace a number of cables and chargers for an all-in-one approach. It's a car charger and … Read more
ABC Fun is a very basic program that helps young children learn to identify letters. There's not much to it, but it's easy and fun to use.
The program's interface consists of a large blank space in the middle with the letters of the alphabet down each side. Users either click on a letter with the mouse or touch the letter on the keyboard, and an object that starts with that letter appears in the middle of the screen. An excited-sounding woman's voice speaks along with it, saying, for example, "A is for apple!" … Read more
RarMonkey is a simple RAR archive utility that offers little to recommend it over a standard RAR tool.
Every developer who works with RAR archives undoubtedly already owns a utility that both compresses and extracts in this format. Such utilities typically offer Windows shell integration, drag and drop for files, and file association--as does RarMonkey. Most offer a Help file, and RarMonkey does, too. Many support automatically extracting multiple archives to multiple folders, as does RarMonkey. In fact, RarMonkey is just like every other RAR utility out there.
RarMonkey's one innovation appears to be the capability to use one … Read more
Roughly a week ago, the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show wrapped up an exciting ten or so days of new cars being paraded around for industry insiders. A few days ago I presented a video clip in this blog documenting what Edmunds.com believed to be highlights of the Frankfurt festivities. One of the new cars coming out that caught my attention was the 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost. So I spent this evening doing some digging around on what this latest Rolls-Royce production model was all about, and this video is the best synopsis of this classy ride.
This video produced by … Read more
Nomee, a dark-themed Adobe AIR app, reenvisions the way you follow social feeds, placing the emphasis on the person or news topic you follow, not just the social network you're on. A card contains several sites or services that are related to the person, like a Twitter stream, Web site, or blog post. Nomee includes cards on celebrities that Nomee staff or other users have created. An integrated newsfeed lets you read all the updates from your cards at once. The draw here is that Nomee lets you control what others see of you if you share only limited … Read more
On Monday, Palm set free its lastest WebOS update for the Palm Pre, bringing quite a number of new features to the smartphone and addresses several security issues.
If you haven't received it already, Palm WebOS 1.2 will arrive as an over-the-air update to your smartphone over the next few days. Notable additions include the integration of LinkedIn contacts, the capability to download songs from the Amazon MP3 Store over a 3G connection in addition to Wi-Fi, and cut and paste for Web pages and e-mails.

Last Friday, we had a bit of Web video fun with some classic European sports cars in action. Out of all those supersweet automobiles, my favorite has to be the somewhat quirky looking Ferrari 250 GT SWB Drogo, perhaps better known as the "Breadvan" because of its unshapely and boxy exterior. Despite its hard-to-miss appearance, a reader noted that the car I focused on about the 5:10 mark in the video was in actuality not the 250 GT. I'll be the first to admit my mistakes and reiterate for the Nth time that I do not … Read more
The basic gist of the app, released this week, is that you can record a video, up to 12 seconds, and send it off to one of your friends. Your friend then gets a push notification and can watch it.
Unfortunately, in order to take advantage of the video recording part of this app, you have to have an iPhone 3GS. Those with the 3G or original iPhone … Read more
While Mint.com for iPhone won't bring you the entire range of financial information available on Mint's Web site, the updated app does come closer than its predecessor. If you sign up for Mint to send you alerts for significant financial events, such as going over your allotted budget, Mint will now push notifications to your phone. The app also opens up to viewing its recently added budgeting tools. New editing fields are the single best addition, and they turn Mint.com's iPhone app from a read-only summary of your finances into a tool that begins to … Read more
