Sony keeps Google TV alive with new Blu-ray player, set top box

LAS VEGAS--Sony was one of the few early supporters of the Google TV platform, and the company is doubling down on its bet with two new home theater products at CES 2012.

Sony announced an updated version of its Google TV-powered Blu-ray player, the NSZ-GP9, as well as its first-ever Google TV set-top box, the NSZ-GS7. Both products will feature all of the improvements made in the most recent Google TV update, including access to apps in the Android Market.

LG's Cinema Screen Range has super-thin five-millimeter bezels--the frames around the screens-- and a one-millimeter bezel for its OLED model. The LM8600 series will be edge-lit LCD TVs that are 3-D compatible, voice-controllable, support Flash and HTML5, and have built-in Wi-Fi. LG unveils 84-inch 'ultra resolution' TV (live blog)

LAS VEGAS--LG Electronics confirmed at CES this morning an 84-inch "ultra resolution" TV with a 1mm bezel, a "magic remote" for voice recognition, 3D gesture recognition, and Wi-Fi to mirror your TV on your mobile devices.

LG also unveiled 55-inch 3D OLED TV at 4mm thick. According to LG, it's the largest and thinnest of its kind.

LG announces its first Google TVs

LG announced that its first Google TV models will be available later this year with a mix of Google technology and the Korean company's own 3D and Web-friendly features.

LG announced two new LCD models, the LMG860 and LMG620, which will both be available in 47-inch and 55-inch versions.

Both ranges feature LG's Cinema 3D technology which features inexpensive passive glasses. The TVs will include a 2D-to-3D conversion mode if you tire of your copy of "Alice in Wonderland" in 3D.

New Google TV taps Marvell system-on-a-chip

Google is tapping Santa Clara, Calif.-based Marvell to power its new TV, which will debut next week at CES.

Marvell's ARMADA 1500 HD Media System-on-a-Chip (SoC) has been designed into the next generation of Google TVs debuting at CES 2012, the chip supplier said Thursday. That chip is based on a design from U.K.-based ARM.

"Marvell and Google have teamed up to...[transform] the TV into the command center for our connected lifestyle," Marvell co-founder Weili Dai said in a statement.

Logitech Revue finally gets Google TV Honeycomb update

The Google TV-equipped Logitech Revue is finally getting its Honeycomb update.

Earlier today, both Google and Logitech announced that the set-top box's owners would be able to download an over-the-air update bringing Android 3.1 to the device. Honeycomb delivers a host of improvements, including a redesigned interface, access to Google Music, and support for the Android Market. In addition, the software's Chrome browser supports Adobe Flash Player 10.2.

Samsung in last-stage Google TV talks, exec says

We've heard stirrings for some time of Samsung's plans to jump into the Google TV market, and now, word from a top company exec all but confirms it.

Samsung is currently in "last-stage" talks with Google to launch a Google TV-based device, Yoon Boo Keun, president of Samsung's TV division, told reporters today, according to Reuters.

The report didn't stipulate whether the device would be an actual television based on Google software, which lets users surf the Web and manage their DVR, among many other features, or a set-top box a la the Logitech Revue with Google TV. In a statement sent to CNET, Samsung said the company "has been in discussions with Google, but there is no concrete plan of any collaboration at this stage."

Whatever the upcoming device may be, don't expect to see it at CES 2012 in January. Boo Keun said the company plans to unveil its Google TV gear at an event next year other than the gargantuan Consumer Electronics Show. … Read more
