Infiniti hots up the G37

In the automotive world, performance lines abound. BMW builds M cars, Mercedes-Benz offers AMG versions of its cars, and Audi puts the RS badge on a few models. Even Lexus got into the game recently with the F version of the IS model.

Among the luxury brands, only Infiniti remained immune from building tuner versions of its cars. Until now.

Enter the Infiniti G37 IPL, being shown for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The newly introduced performance brand, IPL, stands for Infiniti Performance Line, and uses, in our opinion, a very un-Infiniti-like graphic design.

Jaguar debuts limited edition XKR175

Jaguar is reflecting on its past as it looks toward the future. To celebrate its 75th birthday, the company is introducing a faster limited edition 2011 XKR175 at the Pebble Beach Automotive Weekend.

This birthday present of sorts highlights the brand's renewed focus on high-performance engineering and sportier vehicles that reflect its racing heritage from the '50s and '60s, says Jaguar spokesman Stuart Schorr. D-Link Pebble to dive in the digital player pond

LAS VEGAS--If LaCie's announcement of the LaCinema Mini HD or Seagate's upgrade to the FreeAgent Theater+ aren't exciting enough, here's another one for you.

D-Link, a prominent networking vendor, announced Wednesday at CES 2010 its interest in the digital content player market with the brand-new and unique-looking D-Link Pebble. The company says the new player is "a stylish addition to any home entertainment environment" that is able to play virtually all media on a TV.

Bentley's muscle-bound Mulsanne

The 2011 Bentley Mulsanne was officially announced at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but the luxury automaker was keeping quiet with the details regarding its newest land-yacht's power train and tech. However, with the 2009 Frankfurt auto show, the veil has been pulled back and we're finally able to share the goods.

Let's just get this out of the way: 752 pound-feet of torque--that's how much twist is generated by the Mulsanne's 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. There's also 505-horsepower being generated, but we can't get past that number: 752.

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance concept cars

Last weekend's Concours focused on vintage cars from Porsche, but also showed an array of rare cars from other manufacturers in pristine shape. Because of the well-heeled crowd that attends the Concours, including Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld, luxury automakers show off some of their newest cars and concepts. This year saw entrants from Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, Tramontana, and even Lincoln.

Classic cars cruise Pebble Beach

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event Sunday featured dozens of decades-old cars in pristine condition in a competition and show that's been held since 1950 at the prestigious golf course near Monterey, Calif.

The show draws thousands of attendees, who also get to see a number of cutting-edge concept cars. Here, though, is a look at some of the historic models.

Bentleys mob Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

Any true James Bond fan will want to be at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 16, as four Birkin Blowers go on display amongst an amazing collection of vintage Bentleys. Although Bond became associated with Aston Martin in the movies, Ian Fleming specified a 1930 4.5-liter Bentley with a Villiers supercharger for the Commander. Sir Henry Birkin added a supercharger to the 4.5-liter Bentley for his racing exploits, and the idea was picked up for a run of 50 supercharged Bentleys from the factory in 1930. AT&T shows that greed has its limits

How often does a sponsoring company try and ban its own products? Perhaps not as often as it should.

I was persuaded on Saturday to visit the AT&T National Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach. It didn't take much. Just the offer of a free ticket and the company of the dissolute and deranged.

(For those of you not familiar with this tournament, professional golfers agree to tolerate amateur players like George Lopez, Andy Garcia and Bill Murray for days that seem to turn into weeks. Much of the money goes to charity.)
