There's no iPhone 3G in the iPhone accessories store

Well, sure, there are accessories, but I want the iPhone 3G! Don't you?

You are not alone. I've been to many AT&T and Apple stores over the last few days--the furthest of those being in Sacramento. (I live in the Bay Area and went there to visit some friends over the weekend.). At each AT&T store I was told to wait for more stock, and at every Apple store I got discouraged by the long line and withdrew. It's crazy.

Now, I can't help but wonder why Apple is doing this. Obviously … Read more

Accessories for the iPhone 3G

Now that you've gotten your iPhone 3G, it's time to get some accessories for it.

Digital Life Outfiter (DLO) didn't wait for long and has just come out with a slew of stuff that you can use to protect, carry, and enhance your iPhone 3G. Most of them work with the original iPhone and the iPod Touch, too.

To keep your iPhone from scratching or bumped around if dropped, you can choose either the HybridShell ($24.99) that's bulky yet stylish, or the VideoShell ($19.99), which is clear and sturdy. Of course, you can get … Read more

Recycled phone cases ready to hit the road

Those who are familiar with Japan's Strapya will undoubtedly remember any number of its bizarre products, which usually come in the form of some misguided cell phone accessory. But there's actually a more serious side to the company, believe it or not, one that involves environmentally friendly products.

Earlier this year, for instance, Strapya came out with a solar charger small enough to fit on a keychain. And now it has released the "Zero," a mobile phone case made from recycled tires.

Inventor Spot speculates that these cases may reflect a new green awareness among younger … Read more

Orbino design captures Air once again

Orbino is single-handedly trying to prove that there are better ways to design a MacBook Air case than the much-copied inter-office envelope look. Only a few months ago the Italian designer came out with its "Arista" series of bags for Apple's runway-model-thin laptop, and now it's introducing yet another case.

The "Aria" seeks to complement its beauty with brawn, made from both premium leather and "sculpted anodized aluminum frame." (There's apparently something about aircraft-grade aluminum that goes hand in hand with luxury products.)

It's a form-fitting case that hugs the … Read more

Sony Ericsson unveils first Sharapova designs

She's been known to design her own tennis outfits and has been reportedly involved in the production of her Prince tennis racket. Now, the Russian tennis star is working with Sony Ericsson to launch a collection of four mobile phone accessories for women. These include a Courtside Case (IDC-31), Exercise Case (IDC-32), Party Bag (IDC-33), and Travel Wallet (IDC-34). See photos of them here.

Unveiled at an exclusive fashion show in London, the Maria Sharapova Design Collection is the first collaboration campaign between the Russian tennis star and Sony Ericsson since the mobile phone company signed a four-year agreement … Read more

Dior designs a frock for the iPhone

New iPhone accessories seem to come out daily, if not hourly, but the timing of this particular case seems a bit odd because it's made by Christian Dior. The venerable design house unveiled its own mobile handset only weeks ago, making a fair splash with a high-end model that will go for an estimated $26,000.

That type of fearless (read: insane) pricing probably helps explain why this rather plain-looking pouch--pardon us, the "Dior Homme iPhone Holder"--is listed at $450, according to Luxurylaunches. It's a good thing that the iPhone needs only one case, unlike … Read more

MacBook Air gets a leather catsuit

It's nice to see that someone is showing a little originality when it comes to cases for the MacBook Air. Until now we thought all of them would be some form of the inter-office envelope look, with the only variation being the occasional cowhide option.

Granted, Vaja's "Ivolution Leather Suit" does take the bovine route as well, but it's distinctly different from other models in some basic ways. Namely, it's meant to stay on at all times, hugging its charge like a wetsuit while allowing it to breathe through mesh vents sewn into the … Read more

iMainGo 2 is an excellent portable speaker case

Anyone who has ever shopped for an iPod speaker knows that there is no shortage of models from which to choose; options range from extra-deluxe party speakers to the gadgets smaller than a pack of gum. Heck, you can even get a case with a speaker built right in: the iMainGo 2. This follow-up to Portable Sound Laboratories' popular iMainGo offers the same compact, innovative design and affordable price tag ($39.99), but includes upgraded titanium speakers as well as fit tweaks that allow it to be used with a greater number of MP3 players. It's a great choice … Read more

Audio demonstration of pitch-correction software

Having spent some time in recording studios, I was aware that automatic pitch-correction software exists and is used by nearly every singer to smooth out the occasional off note. (Neko Case claims she doesn't use it, but she's the rare exception.) But I don't sing, so haven't spent a lot of time with it myself.

So I was fascinated to hear New Yorker music editor Sasha Frere-Jones, who wrote about pitch-correction this week, give an audio demonstration of Antares' AutoTune software in the magazine's Out Loud podcast. He sings a version of Kelly Clarkson's … Read more

Supreme Court rejects fantasy baseball dispute

Major League Baseball has struck out in its attempt to get the U.S. Supreme Court to intercede in a fantasy baseball dispute.

The justices on Monday said they won't take up MLB's challenge, backed by the National Football League Players Association, of prior court rulings favoring a fantasy league company. The announcement came without comment in a standard list of case statuses published by the high court (PDF).

MLB's Internet media arm, later joined by the pro-baseball players' union, had claimed that C.B.C. Distribution and Marketing--a Missouri company that sells fantasy sports products via … Read more
