Ah spring time; when romance, flowers, and new cell phone rumors bloom. A leaked "confirmation" to Engadget reveals a slew of upcoming phones to AT&T's lineup, and the lineup is a doozy. Not only do we get even further information that the LG Vu with MediaFLO is in the works, but we also hear that the Sony Ericsson Z750, the Motorola W760 Hurricane, a new Pantech Breeze flip phone, the Motorola Z9 slider, and last but certainly not least, the Nokia N95 for the North American market may finally be in AT&T's … Read more
What could possibly be more annoying than buzzing your friends and co-workers with a "PicoZ Micro Helicopter"? Try the new "PicoZ MX-1 Extreme," which makes the bold claim of being "the world's smallest remote control chopper."
The difference might seem minuscule to the untrained eye--4.6 inches vs. the original's 5.3 inches--but if you're of Lilliputian origins, the discrepancy is massive. Other than that, Coolest-Gadgets says the quarter-ounce copter has many of the same features as its older and larger sibling, including twin channels, a built-in lithium battery, adjustable trim … Read more
Sony Ericsson made a strong showing at the GSMA World Congress in Barcelona. The company announced several new models, all of which make an effort to stand out. And you can see them here in our Sony Ericsson GSMA slide show. The biggest news is its new Xperia X1. The first Sony Ericsson Windows Mobile phone, it features a full alphabetic keyboard with a unique "arc" slider design. The Sony Ericsson booth staff isn't letting the two Z1s we saw out of their hands, so we didn't get a good chance to play with it yet. … Read more
If you thought Motorola's first announcement at GSMA World Congress was boring, how little did you know. Perhaps it's because the company made such a bang at CES, but Motorola in Barcelona is proving to be a snoozer. Besides the Wi-Fi Motorola Z6w, Moto also unveiled two very basic phones: the W161 and W181. Sporting minimalist candy bar designs, the handsets are just for making calls. In fact, the W161 is so simple that it has a monochrome display. Surely, it's been years since we've seen one of those. Though I know there's always a … Read more
At the GSMA World Congress, Motorola has shown you can't judge a company by the size of its trade show booth. Though Moto had a sizable booth--and a swanky, two-story meeting area (complete with a bar)--the company's ho-hum announcements were barely audible above the din of the show floor.
Moto's biggest news, which, trust me, isn't saying much, is the Motorola Z6w. Identical to the Z6tv, and Z6c, the Z6w sports the slider design that was started by the Motorola Rizr Z3. Curiously, Motorola said it is dropping the Rizr name from its lineup, so … Read more
Sony Ericsson unleashed a platoon of cell phones and smartphones at GSMA 2008 tonight, including this sleek number, the Sony Ericsson Z770. The clamshell phone is as slim as can be but the handset manufacturer doesn't want its size to fool you. The Z770 is optimized for Web surfing with HSDPA data speeds and has a snazzy browser that features a mouselike cursor for easier navigation. In addition, there's support for RSS feeds and widgets. E-mail is also a key feature, whether you just need to access your Web accounts such as Yahoo and Hotmail, or hook it … Read more
What a relief. For a minute we were worried that a disturbing new trend might be in the offing after coming across a lounge chair that doubles as a fitness machine. But luckily, the gold standard of laziness has assuaged our fears--and with the first line of La-Z-Boy luxury spas, no less.
We've seen all manner of media-equipped spas, of course, including one that comes equipped with a 61-inch LCD. And truth be told, La-Z-Boy's "Premier Collection" doesn't appear to offer a whole lot that's new--except for one crucial difference: reclining seats. Yup, you … Read more
As we told you on Sunday, Sony Ericsson launched three new handsets at CES. The new models range from high-end (the W760) to the entry-level (the W350) with one in between (the Z555a). I got the chance to handle them at a press event at Caesar's Palace and on the show floor. The W760, which was one of our Best of CES nominees in the cell phones and smartphones category, was the most appealing of the bunch. The slider design is uncomplicated, but attractive, and it had a sturdy feeling in the hand. The slider mechanism also seemed pretty … Read more
Motorola clearly tried to steal the show with its CES press conference (it did have cotton candy after all), but we have to admit that its new phones look pretty cool. Besides the Rokr E8, the company also introduced the video-centric Z10. Though its 3.2-megapixel camera may not sound very impressive--particularly with the 5-megapixel camera phones on the market--the Z10 offers a high-end video experience by recording and playing clips at a full 30 frames per second, which is equal to your television set. In contrast, most camera phones record and play at 15 frames per second, which accounts … Read more
