Vacation News & Update: a reminder

Just a reminder from last Friday's posting...

I have created a Vacation News & Update page covering the most notable MacFixIt-relevant news and information that occurred during my absence. Regular readers of other Mac web sites may already know much of this stuff, but I decided it was still useful to do, if only to have it available in the Archives.

Navigator window disappearing bug: a work-around

Regarding the problem with Navigator windows "disappearing" when you use WindowShade (or possibly Aaron or Kaleidoscope) to collapse them ( as reported last time), several readers offered possible work-arounds. The one that seemed the most reliable to me is as follows:

"You can get the window back if you hide Netscape, either by going to the Finder and selecting "Hide Netscape" or option-clicking on another application. When you return to Navigator, the window will have un-collapsed and, if you have a window enhancer such as Aaron or Kaleidoscope, you can click on the window border and … Read more

POWERtools Infiniti Mac clone problem

A reader reports: "If you are the owner of POWERtools Infiniti computer and are having problems with the audio out on the CD-drive, then there is a good possibility that you got a 'Demo' drive. I recently upgraded mine, but instead of shipping a replacement 16x drive they sent me a 12x one. The model number for the 16x is XM-6002B. If you have a number that is XM-5702B, then you have a Toshiba 12x drive. POWERtools says it is aware of this problem and taking steps to correct it."

UMAX Scanner termination problem

A web page describing a termination problem with UMAX scanners opens with these comments: "For some strange reason UMAX is persisting in not providing terminator power from it's scanners. In the Astra 600, just like in most earlier models, this is again the case. We have notified UMAX of this fact and that we see it as an important problem. Their response is that they see no problem." It goes on to provide details.
