Instant-messaging fiends awaiting Yahoo's first IM solution for iPhone are getting more than they bargained for with Yahoo OneConnect (download and rate). Whether you love or hate the new social-networking and address book features, Yahoo OneConnect does offer some innovations in iPhone chatting. See our pros and cons in this First Look video or read our full Yahoo OneConnect review.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing 70 percent to 80 percent of you have a maximum of four sources hooked up to your AV receivers.
You've got a Blu-ray/DVD player, cable/satellite box, maybe a game and a VCR wired up, and you're done. Most of the jacks remain empty, nothing wrong with that, but all that extra capability adds to the complexity and cost of the receiver. Has connectivity gone wild?… Read more

Yahoo's OneConnect for iPhone is a strange compilation. More complicated in construct than an instant messenger application, OneConnect has worked in elements of social networking and contact management, to mixed results. We CNET Editors have found its content-loading and refreshing laggy, its social networking capabilities limited, and its ideas about storing and managing messages and contacts odd. Yet, OneConnect has potential as a broader communications application, and it's refreshing to see an iPhone application that attempts to create something new rather than simply pare down a pre-existing online service.… Read more
When Hewlett-Packard showed us an early version of its $349 MediaSmart Connect digital media extender, our first reaction was, "It costs too much." Now that it's actually available, it appears the company has finally gotten the message. We're hearing from a source close to HP that the official price will drop to $299 in early October, and that "retailers are expected to offer instant rebates so consumers should find the product for around $249...maybe even lower."
Why the price cut? Remember that the Xbox 360 can duplicate much of the MediaSmart Connect's … Read more

Sometimes paying more money saves you more money. My girlfriend recently increased her AT&T text plan from 250 texts a month to 400 texts a month. The result is that she's actually paying less now than she was before, since going over her 250 test message limit was actually more expensive than just paying for 400 up front.
She could have just texted less, but that's not very realistic, and it's nice to know wireless companies have a fail-safe for those of us who have a hard time controlling our indulgences. Alltel Wireless on Monday … Read more
From the folks who brought you the creepy and simultaneously cool (depending on who's using it) DVR flashlight, comes another 007-inspired piece of high-tech security gear. On Wednesday, Swann Communications introduced the IP-3G ConnectCam 1000.
The ConnectCam is a 802.11G wireless network camera that lets users view their own surveillance video on their 3G phone (setup of the camera's options requires a PC) from anywhere in the world, according to Swann. I really need to get my superiors to send me to New Zealand to test out this whole "anywhere in the world" thing.

Iogear introduced on Monday the first KVM Switch that enables control of a second computer using your laptop--the USB Laptop KVM Switch.
For those who are not familiar with this type of device, KVM stands for keyboard, video, and mouse. A KVM switch is a device that allows for working directly with more than one computer via only one set of KVM and therefore keeping the work space free from clutter, and saving energy as well as money. This is only applicable to situations where you don't need to directly interact with all of the involved computers at the … Read more
The 2008 Olympics in Beijing are over for Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the founders of would-be Facebook rival ConnectU who earned spots on the U.S. rowing team. The identical twins ended up placing sixth overall in the men's pair event; they don't take home any medals, but it's still a more than respectable finish. To get there, the pair had to make it through two rounds of heats, a semifinal, and then the grand final; just making it to the last round is a big accomplishment.
The Winklevosses placed sixth out of the six boats in … Read more
