Samsung has announced the successor to its rugged Rugby handset, dubbed the Samsung Rugby II. Like its predecessor, the Rugby II is military-certified to withstand a harsh environment, plus it has push-to-talk functionality. Other features include improved noise suppression, a 2.0-megapixel camera with Video Share capability, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, and more. It will be available June 6 for $129.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
There are few things in life as satisfying as a home-cooked meal. However, the personal touch that we so crave has a serious drawback: The clean-up. Dishes may migrate from table to sink to dishwasher at a glacier's pace, but in the end, they do get cleaned. That's the easy part. The stove unfortunately is usually another matter entirely.
The Samsung FER300 Electric Range offers the modern kitchen the convenience necessary to not only streamline the evening meal but also the clean-up afterward. Featuring a four-element ceramic glass cooktop, spills and spots are easily wiped clean. Inside, a … Read more
Whether you go for an entry-level Blu-ray player or a more expensive midrange model mostly comes down to whether you need one feature: built-in Wi-Fi. Samsung's BD-C5500 lacks built-in Wi-Fi (although it can be added with an $80 USB dongle), but comes in about at $65 cheaper than the step-up BD-C6500 and still offers up the same excellent image quality.
The BD-C5500 also features Samsung Apps, the company's expandable platform for streaming media and other Internet services like Twitter. Though it may not achieve the same popularity as Apple's App Store, the platform is already well-stocked with … Read more
Despite our disdain for the bad spelling, Samsung has decided to go ahead with its third Messager phone for U.S. Cellular. It's called the Samsung Messager Touch, and as the name indicates, it'll have a 2.6-inch touch screen in addition to a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Features include Samsung's own TouchWiz interface, a 2-megapixel camera and camcorder, 16GB of microSD memory support, Bluetooth, a music player, a speakerphone, and more. It will be available in both black and blue. The Messager Touch will sell for $50 with a new U.S. Cellular contract.
We got our first glimpse at the Samsung Wave at Mobile World Congress 2010 back in February and now, the first smartphone to run Samsung's Bada mobile operating system is finally available in select European countries.
Those countries include the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, and Samsung plans to bring the Wave to Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. However, don't really expect to see the Wave hitting North American shores too soon.
As we learned at MWC, Bada is an evolution of the middleware that's been on Samsung's phones all … Read more
In 2009 Samsung made significant improvements to the picture quality of its higher-end plasma TVs, bringing videophile cred to bear against category king Panasonic. This year, Samsung has announced an even larger lineup of plasmas, and one of the most intriguing from a potential bang-for-the-buck proposition is the PNC590 series.
It lacks the features--namely Internet connectivity and services--of its like-priced competition from Panasonic and LG, but makes up for it with promising specs. All told, however, C590 can't quite match either the 2010 Panasonic G series or the 2009 Samsungs we reviewed, despite delivering decent picture quality overall. Videophiles … Read more
Why are these high-fashion phones still around? Who uses them? I've never once seen one in the wild. Only once have I ever even heard of one in the wild and that was when my friend Adam Curry said that he was going to buy his teenage daughter a Samsung Armani. He hardly counts. He is a high-profile guy. Mere mortals do not … Read more
Mobile phone and smartphone sales are on a roll, according to figures released Wednesday by market researcher Gartner.
In the first quarter, customers worldwide bought 314.7 million mobile phones, a 17 percent increase year over year. Smartphones sales specifically jumped 48.7 percent from the year-ago quarter, as 54.3 million units flew off the shelves.
Demand within mature markets and lower prices are part of the reason for the double-digit gains, Gartner said.
For the quarter, the usual mobile phone makers topped the ranks, with Nokia in first place with a 35 percent market share, followed by Samsung, … Read more

Now that Wi-Fi and extensive support for streaming media services such as Netflix has become commonplace on midrange Blu-ray players, manufacturers have struggled to find ways to stand out from the pack. Samsung's differentiating feature on the BD-C6500's is Samsung Apps, the company's expandable platform for streaming media and other Internet services like Twitter. While it may not achieve the same popularity as Apple's App Store, the platform is already well-stocked with names like Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, and YouTube.
Aside from Samsung Apps, the BD-C6500 is also one of the few players to also keep 7.… Read more
