When it comes to surfing the Web, Opera has always been ready to make a splash. The browser with the small-but-loyal user base (less than 2 percent of total market share) is all about networking, creating a zippy browser for the desktop and laptop, cell phone, USB or external drive, and devices like portable media players and the Nintendo Wii. Opera Software sings security note

Just a few days ago, Opera Software was singing the blues.

It turned out that unsavory attackers could craft malicious torrent files, which, in turn, could lead to a buffer overflow in Opera for Microsoft Windows users, according to Opera's security advisory.

And that's not a good thing.

These attackers could inject arbitrary code into users' systems, if they right clicked on a torrent entry in the transfer manager, resulting in a buffer overflow. Fortunately, for some, simply clicking on a torrent link would not trigger the vulnerability.

Evening roundup: Viacom sued, MySpace photo albums, Wii browser delayed

Viacom sued over Colbert parody on YouTube. A takedown notice for a parody video clip of The Colbert Report was the cause for a lawsuit against Viacom by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The video featured several short clips from the popular late-night TV show, along with user-generated content. Viacom said it doesn't mind the video being shown on the service.

Enhance your Wii's browser with Wiiminder

Wiiminder is a site that adds functionality to your Wii browser. Navigating to Wiiminder.com on your Wii provides you with multiple tabs, a search tool, an address bar, and a really neat drag and drop favorites folder that's much snappier than the one that ships with the Opera browser.
