It's a wrap! CTIA 2008 has come and gone and the show produced quite a number of smartphone announcements. Research in Motion unleashed a fleet of new BlackBerrys; Microsoft unveiled its latest mobile operating system; and we even saw a new entrant into the field. Call me jaded, but it's been a while since a new smartphone has knocked my socks off. I mean, of course, I get excited when a new product comes out, but (iPhone aside) it's usually pretty much the same innards in a slightly different package. Sony Ericsson may have been a sleeper at CTIA, but one good thing came out of it: I finally got my hands on the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. Research in Motion has been keeping itself plenty busy at CTIA 2008 with the release of the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Verizon Wireless and Sprint and the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120. Verizon Wireless isn't the only CDMA carrier to have scored the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330. Sprint also announced at CTIA 2008 that it will offer the popular smartphone later this month. Like Verizon's version, the device features integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP and DUN support), a 2-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, and a microSD/SDHC expansion slot.
