Is the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide camera really all that?

HTC has been pushing the 8-megapixel camera on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide hard, mostly for its low-light capabilities and its "zero shutter lag." I won't dispute that it delivers excellent photo quality overall, and that it's a great camera to use, but calling it the "most advanced smartphone camera" on the market is going too far.

To see just where it triumphs and fails in executing still photography, I spent several days shooting outdoor, indoor, low light, and well-lit photos with four smartphones around the San Francisco Bay Area: the MyTouch 4G Slide, … Read more

T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide review: Best camera around?

HTC is mighty proud of the 8-megapixel camera and accompanying camera software it put on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide, enough so that it beat its chest that this phone has the most advanced camera on any smartphone around.

We haven't had the phone in our clutches long enough to perform every test, especially against all our other smartphone cameras (but stay tuned--we will!) We did, however, run enough tests to know an overblown claim when we hear one.

The 1080p HD video capture, dual-LED flash, HDR camera software, and extensive other shooting modes are great, don't get … Read more

New T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide ready for close-up

Today, T-Mobile finally put the rumors to rest and officially unveiled the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide. Expected in July for $199.99 with contract, it's the latest addition to the carrier's line of consumer-friendly Android smartphones, and it's more than just the next-gen version of the MyTouch 3G Slide; T-Mobile is touting the MyTouch 4G Slide as having the most advanced camera of any smartphone out there.

Designed in collaboration with HTC, the smartphone has an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 1080p HD video capture, which isn't out of the ordinary. What is special, however, … Read more

Keyport Slide slims down, techs up your keychain

If you're like me and you don't like little sharp metal objects jingling around in your pocket, scratching up your phone, and ripping holes in your pants, you may be looking for a way to manage your keychain. The Keyport Slide aims to do just that, replacing your keychain with a slick looking aluminum chassis that sheathes your keys, creating a solid unit that doesn't jingle around and weighs next to nothing--as long as you aren't carrying more than six keys around at a time.

The Slide measures 4 inches long by 1.25 inches wide … Read more

Naztech Bluetooth slide-out keyboard for iPhone 4

Ladies and gentlemen, your iPhone 4 now has a slide-out keyboard. Sort of. If you've been an iPhone detractor because of its lack of a physical keyboard, you may now rest, all thanks to Naztech's Ultra-thin Sliding Bluetooth Keyboard for iPhone 4.

The keyboard "easily pairs over Bluetooth using wireless connectivity and features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that includes Search and Home buttons. It's powered by a lithium rechargeable battery and is charged via its Mini-USB port."… Read more

Keyport: The humble keychain gets all fancy

Many a tense movie moment has hinged on a character desperately sorting through a ring of keys, trying to find the right one that opens the door to safety. That plot gimmick could become a relic of the past if the new Keyport Slide catches on in Hollywood.

This little metal gizmo replaces the unwieldy and old-fashioned keychain with something more akin to a Gerber Multitool. This is the keychain MacGyver would have if he ever emerges from the '80s.

Each keyport comes with a set of blank key blades that you have cut to match your existing keys. They disappear into the box when not in use and slide out at the push of a tiny button. The buttons are color-coded so you have a better chance of finding the right key at the right moment. That's handy if you plan to star in a horror flick.

The whole package comes across as something that Q developed down in the 007 laboratory. "If you see this slim box, James, you'll notice that it contains your Aston Martin key, a flashlight, and a martini stir stick for emergencies."

The standard Keyport Slide bundle runs $79 and includes six standard key blades. Even fully loaded, the Keyport still skims in at less than 2 ounces. A true geek won't be satisfied with just keys. You'll need to show off the optional flashlight, bottle opener, and USB drive. The LED insert costs $10, the bottle opener comes in at $6, and the USB drives are available for $19 for 4GB and $29 for 8GB. You can store a decent amount of top secret data with that.… Read more

Sony chose Android, should Nintendo take iOS?

For now, the dust has settled following Sony's back-to-back announcements, starting with the NGP and now this past weekend's Sony Ericsson Xperia Play unveiling. Regardless of how one might feel about the position Sony is attempting to secure in the portable gaming market, there are more ramifications that may not be present on the surface.

Portable gaming is no longer a two-console market. Five years ago it seemed Nintendo and Sony would battle to the death with the DS and PSP. Now, in a portable gaming market that has expanded to the world of "waiting room" casual games, the iOS and Android platforms have proven themselves worthy of bringing legitimate competition. Categorize these mobile OSes how you will, but they are directly affecting the sales of gaming-focused devices.

In an effort to bring some sort of familiar gaming experience to the core gamers who might be sick of sliding and tapping their way to victory, Sony felt the need to develop the first-ever PlayStation Certified mobile smartphone in the form of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play--a device running Android 2.3. Though it may seem like a trivial detail of just another OS on a mobile device, Sony has chosen Google and Android as an ally in what's becoming a serious portable gaming turf war.… Read more

Rumor: 3 Apple iPhone 5 prototypes include 1 with slide-out keyboard

One Taiwanese Web site is jumping into the iPhone 5 rumor fray with the claim that Apple is testing an iPhone prototype that has a slide-out keyboard.

The lack of a physical keyboard is one of the last remaining gripes many have about Apple's revolutionary iPhone. Many longtime BlackBerry users refuse to switch to the iPhone due to their apparent love of tiny keyboards. But all this could be moot should this rumor pan out.

AppleInsider has the scoop from tw.apple.pro after an extremely thin translation. Using Google Translate myself, I can't discern much more than … Read more

Backwoods racing fun!

Reckless Racing is just plain fun, taking some gameplay ideas from old classic console games like RC Pro-Am, and adding in modern graphics and physics to make a racing game that is a blast to play and looks great on the iPhone 4 Retina Display.

The game delivers on two major counts: graphics and controls. Reckless Racing is absolutely dazzling, with vibrantly colored cars and tracks that are just shy of photorealistic. And you get to choose from five different control schemes--everything from basic left/right-gas/brake buttons to an onscreen steering wheel, to accelerometer steering. We're partial to … Read more
