Black Francis, 'The Seus': Free MP3 of the Day

No one can make a kooky lyric feel utterly affecting like Charles Thompson. With "Svn Fngrs," as brisk an "LP" as you'll likely find, the erstwhile Pixies sage returns with more scarcely sensical, highly conceptual, and dangerously inviting alt-rock. Every ugly riff does seem so pretty.

Kids camera disguised as a game controller

It seems that long-time Instant Film maker Polaroid is making an attempt to target kids with their digital cameras. The Pixie CKA-00301S is a 3-megapixel shooter shaped like a handheld gaming device and, yes, it comes with 8 built-in games to entertain the little ones.

Pollstar magazine asks a good question: why aren't more artists recording their live concerts to CD and selling them at shows? I recall that the Pixies recorded most of the shows on their reunion tour in 2004, but I haven't seen many bands do it since.

Pollstar notes that some venues retain the rights to sell anything recorded there, while others charge artists a fee for the privilege of recording their own shows for resale later. (Fair enough--the venue has probably invested heavily in sound gear, or at the very least in acoustics, which may have an effect … Read more
