Wells Fargo is latest bank to be hit by cyberattacks

Wells Fargo is the most recent mega-bank to be hit by a distributed denial-of-service attack. According to the Wall Street Journal, roughly 220 customers filed complaints of outages on its Web site today saying they had problems logging on.

"The amount of bandwidth that is flooding the websites is very large, much larger than in other attacks, and in a sense unprecedented," chief executive of private security firm CrowdStrike Dmitri Alperovitch told the Wall Street Journal.

Don't worry, it's just a small Google outage

Google suffered a outage this afternoon, but it doesn't appear to be very widespread.

A Google spokesman said a "small percentage of our users have had issues accessing some of our services for a few hours today." He didn't specify what users and services were impacted but said the company has worked to restore access as quickly as possible.

Search and Hangouts appear to be a couple areas impacted, according to a Mashable report.

RIM fixes BlackBerry outage that hit Europe, Middle East, Africa

RIM's BlackBerry e-mail service was offline earlier today for users across the Europe, Middle East, Africa. But service has since been restored, according to the company.

Research In Motion confirmed the outage in a tweet earlier today and said that services should now be up and running again.

A spokesman for RIM sent CNET the following statement from CEO and president Thorsten Heins:

Chase site hiccups following similar Bank of America issues

The main site for Chase bank was temporarily inaccessible for some today, one day after Bank of America's online banking site had intermittent outages.

"*ALERT* Chase Online is working, though some customers may not get in on the first try. We appreciate your patience as we work through this," the Chase Twitter account tweeted this afternoon.

Users apparently aren't getting the iMessage

Apple is apparently having trouble getting its iMessage across.

IMessage is Apple's proprietary instant messaging services for iOS and Mac OS. Users have outlined their issues in several Apple support forum discussions (here and here), where they complain about being unable to send or receive messages. The problems appear to affect users across the globe, suggesting that the problem is on Apple's end as opposed to that of a service provider.

GoDaddy offers users one month credit following service outage

GoDaddy customers are being given an apology and one month of free service after grappling with Monday's service snafu.

In an e-mail sent to GoDaddy users, the company's CEO Scott Wagner apologized for the outage that affected Web sites, e-mail availability, and other services.

"We let you down and we know it," the e-mail read. "We take our responsibilities -- and the trust you place in us -- very seriously. I cannot express how sorry I am to those of you who were inconvenienced."

Go Daddy: Sorry about the outage. And no, it wasn't a hack

Domain registrar and Web hosting company Go Daddy said that yesterday's outage, which brought down an untold number of Web sites, was not the result of a hacker attack.

"The service outage was not caused by external influences," the company's interim CEO, Scott Wagner, said in a statement. "It was not a 'hack' and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS)."

Go Daddy says client Web sites back up

Web sites serviced by Web hosting and domain registrar Go Daddy were back online early this evening after being down for much of the work day, a company spokeswoman told CNET.

"All services are restored and at no time was sensitive customer information, such as credit card data, passwords, names, addresses, ever compromised," Go Daddy spokeswoman Elizabeth Driscoll said in a phone interview just before 5 p.m. PT. She said the company does not know at this time exactly what caused the outage and she couldn't say exactly how many sites were affected.

United Airlines 'network outage' snarls air travel

United Airlines said this afternoon that it is recovering from widespread computer problems the caused air travel snafus around the county.

The airline blamed the problems on a "temporary network outage" that began shortly after 12 p.m. PT today. United apologized for the disruptions and said it's allowing customers to "cancel or rebook their itineraries without penalty" if they were affected.

The Federal Aviation Administration had issued a "ground stop" for United flights flying into United's biggest hubs -- Houston, Newark, and San Francisco -- according to a USA Today report. … Read more

Square was hit by an hour-long outage yesterday evening, stopping some payments being processed.

The outage caused problems for users of the startup's website, Squareup.com, as well as its mobile app, The Next Web reports.
