Facebook reportedly working on mobile news-delivery service

Like with Twitter, Facebook users often share breaking news with their friends on the network. But now the social-networking giant is reportedly looking to add a homegrown news-delivery service to its mobile offerings.

The company has been working on a service internally dubbed Reader that would display content from Facebook users and other publishers in a new visual format tailored for mobile devices, people familiar with the project tell The Wall Street Journal. HTC executive compensation cut by 51 percent after poor year

HTC, the embattled smartphone maker, cut its executive compensation by a ton in 2012.

The company revealed in its 2012 Annual Report on Friday that it paid 660.5 million New Taiwan dollars ($22 million) in total compensation to its executives. The compensation includes salary, retirement pay, bonuses, and profit-sharing, according to the Dow Jones, which was first to report on the figures. The NT$660.5 million is down 51 percent compared to 2011, when the company paid out NT$1.36 billion to its executives.

Apple's iPhone 5 is on its way to Virgin Mobile, the carrier announced Friday.

Starting on June 28, customers will be able to buy the white or black iPhone 5 on Virgin Mobile's Web site, at the company's dealers, and at RadioShack. The 16GB model will set customers back $549.99, while the 32GB and 64GB options will be available for $649.99 and $749.99, respectively.

FAA to loosen rules on in-flight electronic devices, says WSJ

Airline passengers may be able to use their favorite electronic gadgets from takeoff to landing if new FAA guidelines come to pass.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to ease the restrictions on the use of certain devices at lower altitudes, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Citing "industry officials and draft recommendations prepared by a high-level advisory panel to FAA," the Journal reported on Friday that passengers would be spared from having to turn off all electronic devices, though cell phones may or may not remain on the banned list.

Apple takes swipe at Android with new fragmentation chart

Apple has fired a not-so-subtle shot over Android's bow with a new chart displaying its lack of operating system fragmentation.

The company recently started publishing how many people are running different versions of its iOS software. The chart, which is available in Apple's iOS Dev Center, shows that 93 percent of its users are running iOS 6. Another 6 percent have iOS 5 running on their devices. Only 1 percent of iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners are running an earlier version.
