With the iPhone picking up steam as a gaming platform, one of the biggest announcements for gamers was that the iPhone 4S' graphics would be seven times faster than its predecessor's. Even though no developers have released a game optimized for the device so far (Infinity Blade II is set to launch December 1), I decided to put some of the more high-quality current games side by side on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S to see if we could spot any difference.

The reason for all the extra speed is the iPhone 4S' dual-core A5 processor, which supposedly has enough horsepower to render complex 3D graphics with significantly high frame rates. At today's Apple event, a new iPhone was announced. Surprise, surprise: the iPhone 4S is a modest upgrade, at least in terms of design. However, it shares a benefit with its larger iPad 2 cousin: significantly improved graphics.

Infiniti's M35h (which we tested earlier this year) has broken into the Guinness record books as the fastest accelerating full hybrid on the road today.

The 360-horsepower M Hybrid made full use of its gasoline engine's maximum 258 pound-feet of torque and the instant-on 199 pound-feet of torque supplied by its electric engine to stop the clock at an average quarter-mile time of 13.9031 seconds. (Times for Guinness speed records are the average of two runs in opposite directions to negate the influence of head or tailwinds.)

Infiniti released no details about a new concept car it would unveil at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show, beyond the fact that F1 champ Sebastian Vettel would be on hand to introduce it.

Infiniti says that Vettel helped design this concept, which looks nothing like the open-wheel F1 cars Vettel drives as part of the Red Bull racing team.

Ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Infiniti showed off a concept version of the JX. This new vehicle has three rows of seating for seven passengers, yet is marketed as a crossover.

Infiniti currently offers the EX and FX crossovers, both five-passenger vehicles, and the QX SUV, a badge engineered version of the Nissan Armada. The JX offers similar passenger space as the QX.

Infiniti says the JX, the production version of which will debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, will be powered by a V-6 engine. Ford's cloud-based Sync Services is an automated system that lets drivers use voice commands to look up businesses, directions, traffic updates, and other information, such as sports scores, stock quotes, and horoscopes. Sync Services can send turn-by-turn directions to vehicles.

Infiniti is giving its Facebook fans an early look at the upcoming JX crossover weeks before the official reveal.

The luxury seven-seater crossover will have its official debut at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18. To build anticipation, the auto manufacturer is publishing a new photo each Thursday on its fan page. The Facebook page also includes a chance to win a trip for two to Pebble Beach for the big reveal.

Larger than the EX35 and FX35 crossovers, but smaller than the full-size Infiniti QX, the three-row crossover should compete with such vehicles as the Audi Q7. Parent company Nissan expects the crossover to be a large-volume production vehicle, and it will be produced at the Smyrna, Tenn. plant.

The production version of the JX will debut at the 2011 Lost Angeles Auto Show in November, and the 2013 model of the crossover will go on sale some time next spring. … Read more
