Daily Tidbits: Coldplay is hot, Friendfeed is multilingual

Last.fm has released its list of the top 10 albums, artists, and tracks for 2008 based on number of listeners. Coldplay was the big winner this year, taking the top spot for album of the year. It also had a whopping six tracks (including the top two) featured in the year's top tracks listing. MGMT was the most popular artist of 2008.

FriendFeed takes the conversation to IM

FriendFeed introduced a new feature on Friday, giving members the option to get updates from the social network as soon as they happen through standard instant-messaging protocols.

Each IM contains the first few hundred characters of the post, along with a small permalink that takes you straight to it. Like the recently introduced live feed, the idea is that you can quickly track and respond to the activity of your friends while they're still around.

FriendFeed offers 'push' service to Twitter users

Social aggregator FriendFeed has just rolled out a new option for its users to post some or all of their FriendFeed activity over to Twitter.

Earlier on in the start-up's life the functionality was introduced to send replies (via FriendFeed) to other people's Twitter messages. This worked as long as you had plugged in your Twitter credentials to give the app permission to post as you.

The looming crisis: Personal syndication overload

Today, for kicks, I tried to draw a map of all the places I write content, all the places it is displayed, and all the intermediate services that re-post my content in places other than where I originally write it. FriendFeed solves noise problem with redesign, duplicate roll-up

On Thursday afternoon social aggregator FriendFeed pushed out its new look to all its users.
