RIM pushes BlackBerry 10 into the spotlight at BlackBerry Jam

Research In Motion and its next-generation BlackBerry 10 operating system will get another chance to prove their worth at the company's annual developer conference, kicking off Tuesday in San Jose, Calif.

BB10 smartphone images make their way to the Web

Codenamed BlackBerry London, the new pictures of this upcoming mobile come from Italian site BlackBerryItalia, via Pocketnow, and tell us something of what we can expect from RIM's last-gasp attempt to win back the smartphone crown.

The image lends credibility to another BlackBerry London image that leaked way back in February, suggesting that RIM has had this phone's design up its suit sleeve for a long time. The London will have an impressively high 768x1,280-pixel resolution, but subsequent touchscreen-only BB10 phones will all have 720x1,280-pixel screens, to help app developers.

Yep, RIM stunk it up in the third quarter

Research In Motion reported declining profits and revenue in the third quarter as it continues its downward spiral.

For its fiscal third quarter, the Canadian mobile devices maker reported (PDF) a profit of $265 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $911.1 million, or $1.74 a share. Excluding one-time charges, including one taken for its unsold PlayBook tablets, the company earned $667 million, or $1.27 per share.

Revenue was $5.17 billion, a modest decline from RIM's year-earlier revenue of $5.49 billion.
