Cowon A3 PVP gets U.S. price and availability

Cowon, purveyor of the most feature-packed MP3 players in the world, has announced the U.S. pricing and availability of its A3 portable video player (PVP), successor to the highly rated A2. According to Cowon, the first shipments of the A3 (pictured above) are due to arrive in early December, priced at $349 (30GB) and $399 (60GB) for the U.S.

From a video perspective, the A3 features a 4-inch TFT LCD display with an 800x480 resolution and integrated component, S-Video, and composite video output. Like most Cowon players, the A3 natively supports an astounding array of file formats and codecs, including video formats such as… Read more

Archos 105 MP3 player reviewed

You've heard me wax poetic about the excellent Archos 605 WiFi portable video player, and even its smaller brother, the Archos 405. Now we have the smallest addition to the family, the Archos 105. With a 1.8-inch screen, 2GB of storage, and a rock-bottom price tag of $89, the 105 is the most affordable player ever released by Archos. But is a low price and a big screen enough to make us squeal with delight? You'll have to take a look at our Archos 105 full review and First Look video to find out.

Photos: Samsung YP-P2

The Samsung YP-P2 has landed, and we have the photos to prove it. With its 3-inch touch screen, and a 480x272 video resolution capable of DVD-quality and 30 frames per second, the Samsung YP-P2 is a tough contender for the holiday's Flash-based PVP battle royale. Obviously, the P2 is aimed at the iPod Touch audience, but with recent video-worthy releases from SanDisk, Creative, and Microsoft--it's still anybody's game.

We'll have a full review done next week. Until then, you can ogle our Samsung YP-P2 photo gallery. The Samsung YP-P2 is available for $199 (4GB) and $… Read more

Photos: Toshiba Gigabeat T

Toshiba has officially announced the Gigabeat T400, a $120, 4GB MP3 player that has the potential to give the iPod Nano and Creative Zen a run for their money. We'll have our full review up on CNET in the next few days, but our initial impression is that the audio and video quality are both excellent. We are pretty bummed, however, that it has a maximum capacity of just 4GB, with no room for expansion. Also, where's the Wi-Fi found in the Japanese version? Still, with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, and support for WMV video, as well … Read more

First look: Apple's new iPods

Apple's newly announced iPods are sure to wreak havoc on holiday wish lists this year. Here's the lowdown straight from Job's mouth to our ears.

New iPod Nano

The new iPod Nano, which is just as slender as its predecessor but shorter and squatter, has a 2-inch display with an iPod video's 320x240 resolution. The new Nano--available beginning this weekend--supports Cover Flow and video games (three are included--Vortex, Sudoku, and a mystery game). Cover Flow on the Nano shows albums against a white background, differentiating itself from the iPhone's cover flow. The Now Playing screen … Read more

Archos 405 gets purple like Barney

In a move that will surely delight Prince, the latest Archos 405 portable video player will apparently be available in purple at tomorrow's launch. The purple version will have the same price and 2GB capacity as its silver brother. Despite my suspicions, it will not smell like potpourri or grape Kool-Aid. For more information on the Archos 405, check out our full review and photo gallery.

Photos and reviews: Archos 405 & 605 WiFi

Jet-lagged travelers of the world rejoice! The latest portable video players from Archos promise new cures for inflight boredom, and the prices are staggeringly cheap. We've just posted full reviews of the (CNET Editors' Choice Award-winning) Archos 605 WiFi and Archos 405 portable video players and regardless of what next Wednesday's announcement reveals from the Apple camp, I think it's safe to say that these new Archos players will top more than a few holiday wish lists.

How can we be so sure? For starters, the 605 WiFi includes a shortcut for wirelessly downloading purchased or rented … Read more

Wi-Fi Toshiba PVP loosed on Japan

We still love our dear Toshiba Gigabeat S portable video player, but its definitely beginning to look its age. Lucky for us, Toshiba has announced the release of a seeming successor to the S-series called the Gigabeat T401, which is due out in Japan the first week of September. No word on when (or if) this latest video-worthy Gigabeat will hit the States, but we're optimistic after Toshiba's latest stateside release of the tiny Gigabeat U.

The Gigabeat T401 keeps the styling of the Gigabeat S but ditches the bulk of hard-drive storage in favor of leaner and … Read more
