HTC Evo, Samsung Epic marked for end of line?

Sprint might soon be phasing out a few of its older products in favor of newer models, if this leaked end-of-line listing from Sprintfeed is any indication. The most notable handsets on the list are the HTC Evo 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G, which were released about a year ago. The Evo and the Epic are set to end in September and October, according to the document.

Other phones that will apparently get the ax are the BlackBerry Bold 9650, BlackBerry Curve 3G, BlackBerry Style, Samsung Seek, Samsung Transform, Sanyo Innuendo, and Motorola i1. Hopefully this means we'll see updates for these devices soon!

Thanks, Mark, for the tip!… Read more

Verizon accidentally reveals Bold 9930

Verizon made a bit of a boo-boo this morning and accidentally revealed the BlackBerry Bold 9930. It was unveiled in the "Explore Features" video on the product page for the BlackBerry 9650; instead of a movie of the 9650, viewers were treated to a sneak peek of the 9930 instead. That video is now no longer available, but Engadget managed to snag a rip of it.

That, along with RIM's recent news that it'll soon release OS 7, leads us to believe the Bold 9930's release is imminent.

Revealed at BlackBerry World earlier this year, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 has a 1.2GHz processor, a 2.8-inch touch screen, a super-slim profile, a larger keyboard than before, and BlackBerry 7 OS. Even though BlackBerry 7 doesn't look dramatically different from 6, the device might be sleek enough for loyal BlackBerry users to stick with RIM. What are your thoughts about the new hardware?

Update: Verizon has a page up for the Bold 9930 now.… Read more

RIM announces new BlackBerrys

RIM CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis announced at this week's annual shareholder meeting that the company plans on releasing seven new OS 7 BlackBerry smartphones in the near future. They didn't go into specifics, but we assume the handsets would include the phones that have been announced, like the Bold 9900 and the Bold 9930. We also suspect the list would include a few leaked devices, like the 9860, the 9850 Monaco/Monza, a Curve Touch, and more.

A new BlackBerry that we definitely know is available is the BlackBerry 9670 Style for Boost Mobile. It was … Read more

Google updates Google Docs for mobile screens

I wouldn't call myself a spreadsheet ninja, but I do use spreadsheets on a daily basis--and Google Docs, specifically--to track roommate bills, plan vacations and conferences, and keep tabs on work projects.

Today Google updated Google Docs for the mobile phone and tablet browser to make it easier for the tool's users to share multiple documents and sort spreadsheets, text docs, presentations, PDFs, and drawings you create online.

Log in from any mobile browser and you'll immediately see two drop-down categories on the navigation bar. One sorts documents by name, modification date, and the date you last … Read more

AT&T finally adds BlackBerry Bridge

More than two months later, and AT&T has finally allowed the BlackBerry Bridge software to be downloaded from BlackBerry App World, according to AllthingsD.

Previously, AT&T customers were the only ones who weren't able to download the Bridge application, which tethers the PlayBook to their BlackBerrys. This is the only way PlayBook owners could get secure access to BlackBerry e-mail as well as calendar, tasks, contacts, and BBM messages. With the Bridge software, all of that information is safely confined on the phone and won't leave a trace on the tablet.

RIM ramps up its courting of European developers

Research In Motion is expanding its series of developers conferences to European programmers.

The first DevCon Europe, as it's called, is set for Amsterdam on February 7 and 8, 2012.

The BlackBerry maker has been slowly increasing its outreach to developers, launching DevCon Asia this year. (The 2012 show will take place in Bangkok.) Meanwhile, the San Francisco area will see its fifth such conclave this fall.

RIM's quickening pace for wooing developers with dedicated shows makes us wonder how much the troubled mobile-device maker hopes that developer interest will increase its mainstream appeal. Android and iOS have … Read more

Sprint offers PlayBook for $499

After showing up in search results and being teased by a Sprint employee in a blog post last week, the 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook finally went on sale on Sprint's Web site today for $499. As the Wi-Fi-only version, Sprint will not be offering any additional services and the tablet won't require a contract.

Sprint announced last January at CES that it would carry the PlayBook by the summer, but until last week the carrier didn't offer any details. But then on Thursday, Gerald Evans, a Sprint public-sector market director for the Midwest region, said on his personal blogRead more

BlackBerry Bold 9900 delayed?

The Boy Genius Report has reported that the latest handset from RIM, the BlackBerry Bold 9900, will be delayed until September even though the initial launch was slated for summer of this year. We've yet to hear back from RIM to confirm this, however, so stay tuned for any updates.

The Bold 9900 has a similar design to the older Bolds, but with a sleeker and thinner form factor. The display is also now a capacitive touch screen, designed to take advantage of BlackBerry OS 7 that brings support for augmented reality apps via a built-in magnetometer.

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace app count bests BlackBerry?

Microsoft announced today during a news event tied to a forthcoming Windows Phone 7 update that its Windows Phone Marketplace holds 18,000 apps.

While that's peanuts compared to Android Market's 200,000 apps and the iPhone App Store's estimated 500,000 titles, it appears that Windows Phone 7 may actually have a similar or larger haul than BlackBerry App World, depending on how you count.

RIM's online market hosts about 25,000 items, which is 7,000 more than the Marketplace. If we split hairs, 7,500 of those titles are visual themes and another … Read more
