The 404 1,018: Where we get all our ducks in a row (podcast)

Apple products are mostly used by younger generations, but the company should still recognize the dangers of "high-tech modern architecture." Such is the plea of 83-year-old Evelyn Paswall, a New Yorker taking Apple to court for $1 million after walking face first into the glass door entrance to the Long Island Apple store.

Does her case hold water, and should Apple continue to use ugly white tape to let people know glass is a real thing? We'll talk about this story and more on today's episode of The 404.… Read more

For Nokia, it's do or die time with the Lumia 900

commentary Nokia got its wish and has its best shot to break back into the U.S. market.

So here's some friendly advice to a company that likely won't get another opportunity as good as this: don't blow it.

Not to pile on with more pressure, but the fate of Nokia's future, and possibly that of Windows Phone and Microsoft's ability to remain relevant in the mobile world, rests largely on how successful the Lumia 900 performs.

There are no excuses this time. Nokia has a large U.S. carrier partner in AT&T, … Read more

Nokia's Lumia 900 smartphone will hit AT&T's store shelves on April 8, a move Nokia hopes will usher a return to the U.S. in a big way.

The phone will sell for $99.99 with a two-year contract, AT&T told CNET. It is one of the most affordable flagship products AT&T has ever sold.

Nokia quietly establishes U.S. beachhead at T-Mobile

Nokia's Lumia 710, often lost in the shadow of its higher-profile brothers, has actually gained a modest foothold at T-Mobile USA.

While not a blockbuster, the Lumia 710 has gotten decent traction at T-Mobile's online store. Web sites such as Amazon and Wirefly similarly have the device ranked high among T-Mobile customers.

Its performance marks a promising start to Nokia's attempt to reenter the U.S. market. And unlike conventional strategy, the Lumia 710 didn't achieve its success through the best specifications or the latest network connection. Instead, its attractive price tag and bang-for-the-buck value have … Read more

Jumbo smartphones: Is bigger really better?

In this edition of Ask Maggie, I offer some advice for buying a new smartphone that doesn't require a crane to hoist it up to your ear. And I explain why Nokia's new 41-megapixel technology is on such a lame OS.

Dear Maggie, I've been using the iPhone since it first came out and have not looked back until recently. Now I'm considering switching. But I've run into a huge problem, every new phone is too big for my personal taste.
