Friday Poll: MMS is iPhone-bound; now what?

We gave a lot of ink (pixels?) on Thursday to AT&T's announcement that MMS would finally be coming to the iPhone after two and a half years. Some people are upset that AT&T didn't meet its "end of the summer" promise for the feature; others are just glad to have an actual target date, September 25.

MMS has always been seen as a missing piece in AT&T's offerings to iPhoners, but now that it's almost here, we have to wonder what's coming to the phone next. Vote … Read more

Friday Poll: What should robots never do?

Here at Crave, we like to keep our eyes out for the latest in robots. Just this week, for example, we told you about kissing robots and a robot that can solve Sudoku puzzles. And really, the wacky-robot news never ends.

In recent months, we've featured a fashion model robot, a sunflower robot, a mind-controlled robot, and an eerie robobaby, to name just a few.

Advancements in modern robotics amaze, amuse, and occasionally appall, which got us wondering. What should robots never, ever be allowed to do? Vote in our poll, and if we missed anything (given the endless … Read more

Friday Poll: Which gadgets should Slim down?

This week, we finally met the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 Slim, which features pretty much the same hardware as its predecessor but has a thinner chassis, vertically and horizontally.

As my colleague Josh Lowensohn notes, however, the PS3's more compact cousin is part of a shrinking-console trend over the last several years. And that got us wondering: in this era of ever-tinier gear, which other gadgets would you most like to see getting smaller?

Vote in our poll, and as always, feel free to sound off in our comments section below.

PS3 Slim: Hot or not?

You've seen the photos and you've read the review, but how do you feel about the the PS3 Slim's design? The Slim is 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than the older PS3s but it is now noticeably deeper than before.

The CNET New York office seems to be split down the middle. Some editors think it reminds them of a turntable, while others think it's a slick improvement. Editor Scott Stein sees the console's wideness as odd, while Justin Yu thinks the black matte has a vintage appeal.

There are varying reports from … Read more

Friday Poll: Awaiting the Zune HD

This week, Microsoft let more Zune HD details out of the bag. The black 16GB version of the upcoming touch-screen media player will sell for $219.99, while a 32GB version in a "platinum" shade will cost $289.99.

Among the device's features are its OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display and multitouch Web browser. It will be able to send video in 720p to an HDTV (using a dock, sold separately).

So now that you know what to expect when the Zune HD shows up in September, what are your thoughts? Vote in our poll.

Friday Poll: What a gadget girl wants

Week after week gadgets embellished with crystals and flower power hit the market with the intention of targeting women. This week was no exception. We told you about ChicBuds, a new electronics company that targets women, appearing to think they will only purchase gadgets if Swarovski has puked all over them.

There seems to be no end in sight for this growing trend, and if you're like me, you're getting sick of it. It's time for some girl talk. How do you think gadget companies should market their products to women? Or should they? Vote in our … Read more

Name that Netbook: What should Apple call its rumored tablet PC?

According to various rumors and reports, Apple's got a new slate-style Netbook in the works that may be announced as soon as next month. While we have no confirmation from Apple--or anybody else--that such a product really exists, that doesn't mean we can't do a little market survey and ask you what the thing should be called.

If the rumors are at all on target, the final product will look something like a jumbo iPod Touch. However, what's interesting is that such a PC would most likely be a crossover product for Apple and straddle several … Read more

Poll: What analog technology will go digital next?

This has been a big week for e-book readers.

With Samsung announcing a new lineup of readers, leaks about a possible upgrade to Sony's Reader, and, most notably, the implications of Apple's supposed new tablet, digital books are mixing things up quite a bit.

It sounds like the future of publishing just might be digital after all. If e-books become the norm for reading, what do you think the next analog technology to go digital will be? Chime in on our weekly poll.

Poll: What's wrong with high-end audio?

I know what's wrong with high-end audio: it's a secret.

Unlike high-end cars, watches, clothing, etc., 99 percent of potential high-end audio buyers are completely unaware of its existence. It's interesting, car magazines regularly plaster shots of cars that only a miniscule number of readers could ever buy, apparently because guys who drive Dodge Caravans love to read about Ferraris. Even the New York Times runs fawning features about the glories of exotic cars and not a peep about high-end audio.

High-end audio magazines and Web sites are only read by folks already in the game; the … Read more

Friday Poll: Giving in to gadget nostalgia

This week we got nostalgic about the Game Boy Micro and got excited about this fabulous '80s-style Casio watch. Not surprisingly, all that looking back got us rifling through our mental gadget drawers and thinking about other classics we pine for.

So what about you? Which of these old-time favorites do you miss most? Vote in our poll. And if you have something better, please share it in the comments!
