This week, we finally met the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 Slim, which features pretty much the same hardware as its predecessor but has a thinner chassis, vertically and horizontally.

As my colleague Josh Lowensohn notes, however, the PS3's more compact cousin is part of a shrinking-console trend over the last several years. And that got us wondering: in this era of ever-tinier gear, which other gadgets would you most like to see getting smaller?

This week, Microsoft let more Zune HD details out of the bag. The black 16GB version of the upcoming touch-screen media player will sell for $219.99, while a 32GB version in a "platinum" shade will cost $289.99.

Among the device's features are its OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display and multitouch Web browser. It will be able to send video in 720p to an HDTV (using a dock, sold separately).

According to various rumors and reports, Apple's got a new slate-style Netbook in the works that may be announced as soon as next month. While we have no confirmation from Apple--or anybody else--that such a product really exists, that doesn't mean we can't do a little market survey and ask you what the thing should be called.

This has been a big week for e-book readers.

With Samsung announcing a new lineup of readers, leaks about a possible upgrade to Sony's Reader, and, most notably, the implications of Apple's supposed new tablet, digital books are mixing things up quite a bit.

I know what's wrong with high-end audio: it's a secret.

Unlike high-end cars, watches, clothing, etc., 99 percent of potential high-end audio buyers are completely unaware of its existence. It's interesting, car magazines regularly plaster shots of cars that only a miniscule number of readers could ever buy, apparently because guys who drive Dodge Caravans love to read about Ferraris. Even the New York Times runs fawning features about the glories of exotic cars and not a peep about high-end audio.
