Verizon Wireless said Wednesday that it has struck a deal with payment company Obopay to allow its wireless subscribers to use their cell phones to send money to each other.

The Obopay application lets users transfer money from an Obopay account to anyone with a cell phone number on any wireless network. The only catch is that those receiving the transfer also have to be registered with Obopay.

The application will be available on Verizon's Get It Now service, which means it will only work with devices that can access the Get It Now catalog.

CHICAGO--Verizon has signed up its one-millionth Fios subscriber, CEO Ivan Seidenberg said Wednesday during his keynote speech here at the NXTcomm tradeshow.

Verizon's been building its Fios all-fiber network throughout its territory for the past three years. The network takes fiber directly to people's door step, and provides near limitless bandwidth that can be used to deliver a triple play of services including high-speed Internet connectivity, telephone service, and TV. The company already offers Internet service that runs at 50 megabits per second. And it's testing service at 100Mpbs.

YouTube's mobile site has been live and available as of a few days ago. The service offers a hand-picked selection of videos users can watch on their mobile devices. Users have access to just the bare essentials, such as running time, rating, and a link to a video's page with more details. There is, however, no community aspect--no user comments, ratings, or video responses--the kind of things that make YouTube so interesting. Also missing is a dedicated video uploader, as mobile users are still required to submit their mobile videos via MMS messaging.

Last week, we told you that AT&T/Cingular was picking up the Samsung SGH-A717 and SGH-A727, and now Mobiledia is putting the Motorola W385 on deck for Verizon Wireless. Sporting a thin design that looks like a mashup of Moto's Razr and Krzr phones, the W385 has a low-end feature set that includes a VGA camera, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, and Bluetooth. It should arrive at Verizon within the next couple of months.
