T-Mobile followed its Samsung Behold II announcement Tuesday by unveiling the T-Mobile Tap and Nokia 3711. The two phones get their debut the day before the fall CTIA show begins in San Diego.

The Tap from Huawei (this is T-Mobile's first Huawei phone) has a touch-screen design that resembles the Samsung Highlight. It's available in two colors: berry and midnight blue. Features include support for T-Mobile's 3G network, a 2-megapixel camera with video, a music player, a Web browser, GPS with TeleNav, stereo Bluetooth, messaging and e-mail, a speakerphone and a personal organizer. Microsoft has officially launched Windows Mobile 6.5, an upgrade to its mobile operating system. While not a major overhaul of the OS, 6.5 does bring a number of enhancements and new services. Interface changes were made to make Windows phones more touch- and consumer-friendly. Internet Explorer Mobile got some much-needed attention, adding new navigation tools as well as Flash Lite support. Microsoft also launched its own app store, Windows Marketplace for Mobile, and a backup service called My Phone.

With the official launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 underway, Sprint got in on the action and announced the upcoming availability of its first Windows phone, the Samsung Interpid.

The Intrepid will be available starting October 11 for $149.99 with a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Aimed at business users, the smartphone has world roaming capabilities, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for Sprint's EV-DO Rev. A network. On Tuesday, Taiwanese handset manufacturer HTC unveiled its fifth Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphhone, the HTC HD2. It will be the company's first Windows Mobile phone to rock HTC's Sense user interface, which debuted on the HTC Hero. The HD2 will also be powered by Qualcomm's new 1GHz Snapdragon mobile processor and boasts a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800) capacitive touch screen. Other highlights include Bluetooth 2.1, a 5-megapixel camera, and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.

After months of talking about Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft is announcing on Tuesday that the first crop of phones to carry the Windows Phone brand are ready to hit the market.

A host of new phones running the new operating system are expected to debut between now and the holidays, with many being announced later on Tuesday. CTIA isn't starting for two days, but Samsung joined Pantech on Monday morning with new phone announcements for AT&T. The Samsung Flight and the Mythic take different approaches to design, but they both offer the new AT&T Mobile Browser, which promises a full HTML browsing experience similar to a computer.

AT&T is on a messaging-phone craze lately, and Pantech has joined the effort with two new texting handsets, the Pantech Reveal and the Pantech Impact.

The Pantech Reveal looks like a regular, fat, candy bar phone at first glance, but it actually slides vertically to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard underneath.
