Sony steps out in a big (and little) way at CES

Sony introduced a slew of new products at CES, across a wide range of categories. The tiny Sony P Series Lifestyle PC takes up about the same amount of space as a business envelope. On the other end of the size spectrum, the eco-friendly KDL-VE5 series of HDTVs--which start at 52 inches--turn off automatically to save power when viewers leave the vicinity. Answers to burning Palm Pre questions

Updated 6:20 p.m. PT, to note that the Pre does have the technical ability to act as a modem for a laptop.

Hands-on with WowWee's Cinemin pico projectors

Wowwee's 2009 lineup of iPod-friendly mobile projectors are hot--almost hot enough to make us forgive the company for unleashing Femisapien onto the world. Branded under the Cinemin moniker, WowWee's pico projectors come in three flavors: Swivel ($299), Stick ($349), and Station ($399).

Chumby grows up, dates Samsung

The cute little beanbag-encased, open-source Chumby (my review), an Internet display device, is growing up through a partnership with Samsung. The original Chumby software makes the device into a good digital photo frame functionally, but the hardware is too small and bulky to compete with other dedicated frames. This partnership will get the Chumby software into more consumer-friendly hardware--eventually.

Samsung unveils P3 touch-screen MP3 player

Samsung spilled the beans on the new P3 MP3 player at the company's CES 2009 press conference. As an update to Samsung's popular P2, the P3 shares many of its predecessor's features, including a 3-inch WQVGA touch screen, DNSe sound enhancement, audio and video playback, photo viewer, FM radio, voice recording, and Bluetooth capabilities such as phone pairing and stereo audio streaming.
