If the Samsung Trill looks familiar, we don't blame you. It is almost the spitting image of the Samsung Trance from Verizon Wireless, except for the navigation keys. The Trill is also from U.S. Cellular, so it won't benefit from the Verizon V Cast Music service. Still, it's a pretty good music phone thanks to its affiliation with Bang & Olufsen. It has 3D surround sound technology and we have to say, it offers good music for a relatively simple phone. It also has a 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. … Read more
In the land of iPhone clones, the Duet W002 is the "cloniest" we've seen. Not only is it the same general shape as the iPhone, but also its menu design, even down to the icons, is a rip-off of Apple's device. In this case, imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery. Emulating and building on someone else's successes is one thing, but it's quite another to offer no ideas of your own.
Like the Duet D888 and D8, the W002 has two SIM card slots, yet that remains its sole highlight. Average performance … Read more
With no disrespect to HTC, Samsung, or Motorola, it's nice to see an Android phone from someone new. Not that the former three don't make great devices; it's quite the opposite. It's just nice to see a fresh face in the crowd every once in a while, and in this instance, that face is Acer.
The Acer Liquid is the company's first Android smartphone, and it's currently only available overseas and will be heading to Canada via Rogers Wireless this spring. The chance of it coming to the U.S. is pretty slim, but … Read more
Besides good call quality, a long battery life is the most important quality a cell phone can have. After all, if you have to carry around your charger for frequent power sessions, it really defeats the purpose of a "mobile" device. Fortunately, CNET tests the talk time battery life of every cell phone that we review. And for higher-end phones we also test features like the music player battery life and video time. For more on that process, check out our video of how we test phones.
The Samsung Freeform, which was once only available on the slowly disappearing Alltel network, is now available on U.S. Cellular, a regional carrier. The Freeform is a pretty simple messaging phone with a full QWERTY keyboard. It has a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 2.2-inch display, a music player, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, and a microSD card slot that can take up to 16GB cards. We liked the Alltel version of the Freeform, so here's hoping the U.S. Cellular model is just as good.
U.S. Cellular hasn't yet released pricing or availability information.
Canadian Google Android fans got more good news this week when Motorola announced a trio of handsets were headed north of the border. The three phones--the Quench (known as the Cliq XT south of the border), Backflip, and Dext (aka the Cliq in the U.S.)--each run Motorola's Motoblur user interface on top of Android. The smartphones are scheduled to arrive sometime within the first half of this year.
Though we don't know which carriers will get the handsets, three major Canadian service providers, Rogers, Bell, and Telus, are mentioned in the official press release.

According to "sources familiar with the matter," Verizon Wireless will release the Nexus One on March 23. Tech Web site Neowin.net is reporting that the nation's largest carrier plans to make the official availability announcement on the first day of the annual CTIA trade show in Las Vegas.
Although no Verizon reps are scheduled to take the stage for any keynote address, the carrier will have a booth. As the Google Android handset isn't brand new, a simple press release might suffice for getting the word out.
Most people are happy with their feature phones , but if you're finding you've outgrown yours and need more functionality, it might be time to upgrade to a smartphone. The handsets in our gallery below are good starters, offering ease of use and the essential tools for messaging, voice calls, and productivity. Fair warning: most of … Read more
