There's a reason that all-in-one TVs are always at the very end of the aisle at retailers. They may well be the least-cool media gear around, bearing the scorn of those who complain, among other things, that the individual components can't be tweaked or repaired. Flat-panel TV industry faces bumpy road ahead

SAN DIEGO--This year could be a turning point for the flat-panel TV industry, as it decides how it will face the dual threats of market saturation and rapidly declining prices.

The total flat-panel display business in the worldwide in 2007 was $102 billion, up from $11 billion in 1998, according to DisplaySearch. And while that growth is encouraging, it's not necessarily good news for all sectors of the market.

Westinghouse shows off new consumer LCD HDTVs

Westinghouse has unveiled two new model lines for its 2008 LCD HDTVs. The VK and TX series of flat panels both sport 1,920x1,080 resolutions allowing support for up to 1080p.

The VK series offers four HDTVs with 42-inch to 47-inch screen sizes and range in price from $1,099 to $1,499. Standing out among the VK series is the VK-42F240S 42-inch LCD HDTV that offers four HDMI inputs compared with the rest of the line's two HDMI inputs. The VK series will be available to consumers in March 2008.

Westinghouse new wireless TV isn't for consumers--yet

Westinghouse Digital is showing off a wireless LCD flat-panel TV here at CES--but the model is currently targeted for use in the digital signage market. The LCD uses PulseLINK's integrated CWave UWB (ultrawideband) Wireless HDMI protocol to broadcast a full bandwidth HD video signal from a separate base station (to which the video sources are connected). As a result, the only wire needed for the panel is the power cord--a near ideal solution for store windows and other retail locations where clutter and wires are unacceptable. Westinghouse fleshes out 2007 LCD lineup

Westinghouse provided an update on its 2007 line of LCDs today, confirming much of what we originally reported back at CES. There's a full lineup of moderately priced 1080p models in 42-, 47-, and 52-inch screen sizes, as well as some lower resolution 42- and 32-inch models. Westinghouse is also continuing its line of LCDs with built-in DVD players, as well as a small 19-inch LCD intended to be used in smaller rooms such as a kitchen or bedroom. We've reviewed several Westinghouse LCDs in the past, and although they might not have name-brand recognition, we actually thought some of them were decent bargains. Westinghouse set to release new digital photo frames

Back in January, Westinghouse announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that it would be putting out a new line of digital photo frames in early 2007. Now the company is getting ready to make good on its promise.

I got a quick look at the final production samples, and they do appear to be significantly better than last year's frames, which were fairly lackluster. As the LCD factories in the Far East rev next-gen panels, the themes this year for digital photo frames are higher resolutions, better interfaces, and just plain big. Westinghouse introduces super-high-res LCD, 1080p models

First there was 1080p. Now there's something called "Quad Full" or 3,840x2,160 resolution, which Westinghouse showed off in a 56-inch LCD HD monitor at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. The company says that equates to a resolution greater than 8 megapixels and that the LCD offers "stunning, never-before-seen picture reproduction."

The Quad Full monitor may be the flashy headline act, but the real meat of the story is that Westinghouse is serving up several new LCD televisions, with a full lineup of moderately priced 1080p models in 42-, 47-, and 52-inch sizes. … Read more

Ever since I got my PlayStation 3, I've been playing it nonstop. Even though I'm playing it on a big screen, it's just not the same when it's not in HD.
