Apple will add $30 million to its coffers in a deal to outfit students in the LA school district with an iPad.

On Tuesday, following a collective thumbs-up for Apple from both students and senior staff, the Los Angeles Board of Education voted 6-0 to approve the contract, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Microsoft, Qualcomm to team up on next round of Surface RTs -- report

Microsoft and Qualcomm will work together on the next generation of Surface RT devices, a new report claims.

Microsoft will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor in some versions of its Surface RT tablets, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the companies' plans. Bloomberg's sources said that the Snapdragon processor will allow for improved performance and could mean 4G LTE support will be available in the Surface RT.

LG Optimus G Pro hits 1 million unit sales in Korea

LG's Optimus G Pro has reached 1 million unit sales a few months before its predecessor, the company announced on Tuesday.

LG posted the news to its Web site (Translate), saying that it has sold 1 million units in Korea. The device hit the Korean market in February, meaning it took about four months for the Optimus G Pro to reach that point. The LG Optimus LTE, which came before the G Pro, reached 1 million units sold in seven months.

AT&T grabs Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet with LTE

AT&T announced on Wednesday that the LTE-capable Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will join the carrier's roster in "the coming weeks" as an AT&T exclusive.

First unveiled at Mobile World Congress, the Note 8.0 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features a 1.6GHz quad-core processor. Additional details include a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD slot for cards up to 32GB. Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6 is a promising phablet but lacks 4G

Phablets are here to stay! Just kidding -- it's too soon to tell if the hybrid phone-tablet trend will become a standard, but the category will soon add the Asus Fonepad Note FHD 6 to its growing landscape.

The Android 4.2 phablet is similar to the Asus Fonepad, which has recently become commercially available in Asia, but features a smaller 6-inch Super IPS+ LCD screen with a higher 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution. Samsung reportedly readying 12.2-inch Galaxy Note tablet

Samsung could introduce an extra-large Android tablet in the second half of the year, according to ETNews (translate).

New rumors indicate that Samsung will release a 12.2-inch version of the Galaxy Note-like experience in the coming months.
