Unboxing: U.S.S. Enterprise Star Trek pizza cutter

I was stoked to answer my door yesterday to see a package from ThinkGeek. Last week, I wrote about the awesome U.S.S. Enterprise Star Trek pizza cutter it's selling and strongly hinted that I wanted one. Someone very nice listened. I'm going to make pizza tonight.

I eagerly opened the box and was struck by the minimalist, almost Apple-esque design of the packaging.

Behold the very simple foam on the top: It's a rectangle, and that is all. But what is beneath?

It's a tease. A peek at the Enterprise's nacelles, the domain of Scotty. To the front, over the saucer, is a saucer itself of more foam. A perfect, simple circle. No extra papers, no coupons, no extras.

Is Google's weird new ad taking the pizza?

I think I have spotted a trend. Google is trying to be funny.

Please, put down that meat cleaver and hear me out. Only the other day, CEO Eric Schmidt appeared on "The Colbert Report." He explained that he is making jokes, although he conceded he needs a little more practice.

So who could not think that this new extraordinary, strange, annoying, demented, surreal work of art that Google has just emitted on behalf of its Mobile service is not another attempt at humor?

Watch while you bake the perfect pizza

There's just something magical about pizza. Somehow the simple combination of flour, cheese, and tomatoes has the ability to transform into a cohesive whole that is much more than the sum of its parts. Add in the fact that pies are easily customized with myriad toppings and a wide range of crust styles, and it becomes apparent that pizza might just be the perfect food. But the ability to create individualized pizzas by choosing favorite toppings and crusts is only half the story. Making your own and watching it bake completes the experience.

The convenience of toast. And pizza. And rotisserie. And...

Despite what some advertisements would lead you to believe, frozen pizza will never equal fresh pizza (unless, of course it is New York pizza, but that's another topic altogether). However, for the ultimate in convenience, pulling a food item out of the fridge and popping it in the oven can't be beat. In truth, frozen pizza has come a long way, but the other items on the refrigerator shelves could use a bit more convenience. At the very least, a do-it-all appliance is needed to enjoy the convenience of easy-to-make food at the press of a button.
