Woman accused of tapping Hireahitman.net

Some things require explanation. Some merely leap into the mind and boggle it.

Such is the effect of the circumstances surrounding the arrest yesterday of Marissa Mark of Jersey City, N.J.

Mark, 28, is accused of hiring a hitman to kill a woman five years ago when Mark was living in Allentown, Pa. The reasons Mark allegedly wanted the woman dead aren't exactly clear, but a man's love--or a lack thereof--may have something to do with it.

Yet Mark's case is made far stranger in that she stands accused of turning to Hireahitman.net.

Murderer's Facebook page boasts bong pics from prison

Technology is all-pervasive.

Wherever you look, someone has their nose in their smartphone, searching for something to love, someone to love, or someone to love them. This seems to be the case even in prison.

Fox 23 of Oklahoma recently happened upon the progressive use of technology enjoyed by Justin Walker. Walker is a convicted murderer. And, for some time, he enjoyed the medium-security luxury of Granite City prison.

However, the Granite City facility appears to be not as secure as one might expect, as Walker was able to upload images of the entertainment available on the inside to his … Read more

Man googles self, finds out he's murder suspect

If we want to find out what the world thinks about us, we google. There, we find every reference to our delicate beings. Well, every reference that we can't find on Facebook.

Please imagine, then, the mental entertainment that played itself out behind Zachary Garcia's forehead, when he googled himself and happened to notice that he was being accused of murder.

No, he was not being accused by some crazy former lover or fellow University of Florida student attempting to enter the Prankdom Hall of Fame.

It was the Polk County Sheriff's Office, which reportedly mistakenly released … Read more

Google Street View captures dead bodies--real ones

Whenever Google sends its Street View cameras to a new country, there is always more revealed than was anticipated.

And so is the case with the launch of Google Street View in Brazil.

Just a day after the service launched, up popped a couple of corpses. One, on the Avenida Presidente Vargas in Rio, the other in Belo Horizonte.

The images, which first reportedly surfaced on Gizmodo Brazil are disturbing because of their apparent normality. They are not in deserted areas, but in places where people and cars can be seen, places where city life just goes on.

Utah uses Twitter to announce execution

This might incite an emotion or two. So I'll keep it simple. Or at least try.

The state of Utah believes it is an appropriate punishment for a convicted murderer to be executed. And Mark Shurtleff, Utah's attorney general, believes it is appropriate to announce the murderer's execution on Twitter.

At Twitter.com/MarkShurtleff, he offered his more than 7,000 followers tweets as to the progress of the state's most recent execution.

Thursday he tweeted: "A solemn day. Barring a stay by Sup Ct, & with my final nod, Utah will use most extreme … Read more

Tec talk text

The detective story is one of literature's most popular and versatile genres, with sleuths ranging from the mild-mannered Miss Marple to hard-boiled private eyes like Sam Spade. Jim Novak, the reluctant hero of the "Hollywood Murders" by Michael Zerbo, is the latter type, a 1950s style gumshoe straight out of Central Casting. The case involves a scandalous murder and the usual array of slinky dames, shady characters, and assorted thugs and snitches typical of film noir mysteries. It features photo-realistic graphics, sound effects, and an Infocom-style parser.
