Raspberry Pi $35 mini system starts shipping

Raspberry Pi, the $35 Linux system about the size of a credit card, is fully baked and ready to eat... er, ship.

The system was designed by a British nonprofit with the idea of encouraging people everywhere, particularly young people in developing countries, to become more interested in programming.

It went up for preorder at the end of February, and the first batch sold out in minutes. That first crop of 10,000 units of the ARM-based system was received by distributors RS Components and Allied Electronics a few days ago, and they say shipping to customers worldwide will commence this week.… Read more

Can a quad-core Windows 8 laptop be as thin as an iPad? That's the design Qualcomm is aiming for. But we've heard this story before.

The San Diego-based chip supplier anticipates superthin laptops running Windows 8 on top of its Snapdragon chips, according to a report in PC World.

Huawei taps Linux-based Tizen OS for phones

BARCELONA--Chinese mobile-phone maker Huawei has joined the Tizen Association and said it plans to build phones using the open-source, Linux-based operating system.

In addition, Huawei joined Tizen's board, which also includes Intel, NEC, Casio, NTT Docomo, Orange, Panasonic, Samsung, SK Telecom, Telefonica, and Vodafone.

The association also announced the open-source release of the Tizen beta and a Windows version of programming tools to build Tizen apps.
