A kernel of truth lies at the core of most stereotypes. Certainly mothers across the country trawl suburban streets in minivans, picking up kids from school and delivering them to various extracurricular activities, including the art of kicking a ball into a net. But the moms we know encompass a much greater variety, too much for one simple stereotype. So we considered nine other mom stereotypes, matching the cars most appropriate for them. … Read more
When they asked me to compare these two cars, I almost choked on my morning Castrol: the Porsche 911 is just about unassailable as a driver's car, while Jaguar has insulted us for ages with X-Types, S-Types, and a bunch of XJs whose resale value drops faster than the Dow in '08.
But as I went over my notes from driving each recently, I found an interesting story and a couple of cars you might actually cross-shop. Maybe.
Let's get them head-to-head and see if the 911's latest edition can unnerve Britain's best example of an … Read more
As Research In Motion prepares to announce its third-quarter earnings later today, one of the company's investors is calling on it to start selling off parts of the business.
In a wide-ranging statement (PDF), Jaguar Financial, a frequently outspoken critic of RIM and its co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, said that the time has come for the company to dump its handset business, leverage its broad patent portfolio, and become a service provider.
"Jaguar believes that RIM should sell its handset business and monetize its patent portfolio, while retaining its service business under new leadership," the … Read more
These five cars have the best-sounding stereos we've tested all year.
To get good sound in a car, you used to have to visit an installer, who would rip out four tinny speakers and replace them with six-by-nines, a sub, and an amp. But now many automakers are partnering with known audio companies to put high-quality audio components in cars at the factory. These systems are designed specifically for each car by professional audio engineers. We picked out five cars with the best-sounding audio systems we heard this year. These systems produce the kind of sound that will have you driving around the block until your favorite song finishes playing.… Read more
This Jag hybrid has very little to do with being green.
It's innovative hybrid system comes from the cutting edge of recent racing technology and is manifested in an interesting "push to pass" button on the steering wheel. That button may be the most understated thing in the car biz today! Brian Cooley takes a look from the 2011 Frankfurt auto show.
Consumer Reports released the results of its annual car reliability survey today, and Scion came out as the top brand, with the fewest reported problems.
Scion cars proved the most reliable, according to owners contributing their experiences in the latest survey by Consumer Reports used to predict car reliability. The report, released today, compiles survey results for 28 brands. The least reliable cars, according to the survey, bear the Jaguar badge.
Along the Scion range, the xD scored the best, while the xB model was the worst, although all were well above most other brands. Lexus, another brand from Toyota, grabbed the No. 2 spot, and its CT200h model proved the most reliable, even more so than the Scion xD. Toyota-branded cars showed up at No. 6 in the survey.… Read more
Jaguar today released a sketch, but no details of its C-X16 production concept car. The C-X16 is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Sept. 13.
According to Jaguar, the C-X16 was designed by the same team that produced the Jaguar XJ, XF and XK.
"Great Jaguars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future," said Ian Callum, Jaguar director of design, in a press release. "The finished C-X16 concept has the potential to do these things while retaining the ability to surprise, to excite and invigorate."

Jaguar's C-X75 concept was the most stunning car unveiled at the 2010 Paris motor show. Along with its sleek exterior, it boasted a hybrid power train, mixing electric motors and microturbines that would make it go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Now Jaguar says it will build a limited production run of 250 vehicles.
We often see concept cars at auto shows and wish the automakers would actually build them. In this case, Jaguar is granting our wish, sort of.
The company pledged to keep the body style of the concept, a low, exotic-looking car … Read more
