Infinite Jukebox: Your favorite song ... forever

It all started with Infinite Gangnam Style. For Music Hack Day Reykjavik, Paul Lamere, Director of Development Platform for the "music intelligence" company The Echo Nest, took Psy's "Gangnam Style" sensation to the next technological level. By breaking down the song into parts and matching similar parts in various patterns, he created a dynamic remix of the song that never ends. For Music Hack Day Boston last weekend, he modified and updated the musical algorithm to work with (nearly) any song, resulting in the webware app Infinite Jukebox, with the tagline "For when your … Read more

How 'Gangnam Style' went too far

If Generals David Petraeus and John Allen want to change their currently salacious images, they should get together with their alleged lady friends -- Paula Broadwell and Jill Kelley -- and perform a "Gangnam Style" routine.

It surely helps that Kelley is alleged to be an "honorary consul" for South Korea.

If the president really wants to avoid the fiscal cliff, he and John Boehner should stretch their arms out, cross their wrists, wiggle their rearguards and do a Gangnam.

Hey, why don't they do it on the edge of a real cliff?

Tibetans send China a message, 'Gangnam' style

Tensions have escalated between China and Tibet as the country's government prepares for its once-in-a-decade change in leadership. New protests by Tibetans have included a string of self-immolations that have drawn international attention.

While the protests are serious, Tibetans in Dharamsala, India -- home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan leadership in exile -- are also taking a more lighthearted approach to protesting China's long-contested and often brutal rule over the Tibetan Autonomous Region.… Read more

Right now, Psy's music video has more than 337 million views on YouTube, making it the ninth most watched video of all time, and one that's quickly advancing on Justin Bieber in position eight. Klingon Style: Guts, glory, blood, and Korean pop music

When Korean pop star Psy unleashed the eye- and ear-grabbing video for "Gangnam Style" on the Internet, he probably didn't expect it to be remade by a crew of aliens and Starfleet personnel. Even better, the song has been translated into the Klingon language. HIja'!

The music video is also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Watch out for cameo appearances from Data, Counselor Troi, and Commander Riker. Guinan shakes it down in the infamous elevator scene.… Read more

Google's Schmidt talks Apple patents, dances 'Gangnam Style'

Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt says his company and Apple are friendly, despite some evidence to the contrary.

Speaking to reporters in South Korea today, Schmidt said Apple "is actually a very good partner" of Google's. According to the Korea Times, which was first to report on his comments, Schmidt went on to say that his company and Apple "are literally talking all the time about everything."

Before long, however, the conversation turned to Apple's ongoing legal war with Android vendors, including Samsung and Google-owned Motorola. Schmidt didn't say too much, according to … Read more

Gangnam Style video now the most 'liked' ever on YouTube

Gangnam Style is neither ganglike, nor Vietnamese.

It's more of a Korean Macarena for those who think cocktails should be green and jackets should be white.

And yet it has become immensely popular. It seems only some understand that it is meant to be just a little satirical.

Indeed The Verge breathlessly tells me that PSY's Gangnam Style video has become the most liked video ever on YouTube. Yes, ever. Yes, the most liked.

Not only has this video enjoyed almost 243 million views at the time of writing, but it has been adorned with more than 2.… Read more
