Fujitsu prepping a pair of 10-inch Android tablets

Fujitsu's Android presence has been meager, especially on the tablet front. Its state of the slate could change soon, if a leaked company road map is any indication. Italian blog Notebook Italia obtained a copy of what appears to be Fujitsu's planned product releases for 2012-2013, which shows at least two Android tablets on the horizon.

According to the road map, Fujitsu has a pair of 10-inch Android 4.0 tablets expected to arrive any day now.

The "high end Bacura" tablet is thought to be water resistant, much like recent Fujitsu smartphones. Its release is … Read more

Take a look through this transparent smartphone screen

Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu showed off a sensational prototype device at the 2012 Wireless Japan expo sporting a feature unlike any other on the market today: a transparent dual-sided OLED touch screen smartphone. In other words, science fiction meets reality.

The latest take on the barely there touch screen concept appears slightly more practical than ever before, as one could control the user interface from the front or rear of the phone. For example, one could pull down the notifications bar or select an icon with the unused index finger behind the phone, meaning less finger obstruction over the screen. The prototype shown at the expo featured a 2.4-inch OLED screen (320x240) and used an unidentified version of Android. … Read more

Phone scammer or trustworthy solicitor? Software calls it

Should you trust that official-sounding guy on the phone trying to talk you into transferring cash from your account to his? Well, we're going to go out on a limb here and say no, but in case that's not so obvious, new voice analysis technology out of Japan promises to help spot the scammers for you.

Nagoya University and Fujitsu have created software they say can automatically identify situations in which one party might "overtrust" the other. It does so by detecting changes in voice pitch and volume level that can occur under psychological duress.

By combining this technology with keywords such as "indebtedness" or "compensation" that are characteristic to a specific type of remittance-soliciting phone-phishing scam called furikomesagi, the researchers have developed a setup now being tested in collaboration with the National Police Agency of Japan and the Bank of Nagoya. … Read more

Fujitsu flaunts quad-core ICS, bucketload of dunkable phones

Like cosplay and Hello Kitty, Fujitsu phones are big in Japan. If you're wondering why you've never seen one of Fujitsu's phones, that's because they aren't currently on sale in the U.K.

All that is set to change though, as the Japanese giant is planning to shake a tail feather and export its smartphone smarts to Europe--imminently, if an FT report is on the money.

So what can you expect from Fujitsu's phones when they land on our shores?

Fujitsu isn't selling the device directly to consumers, but will offer it to carriers who may choose to do so. The device will be available in the second quarter.

"When installing the LTE Femtocell, there is no need for mobile carriers … Read more
