LG Optimus Elite hands-on: Super green but far from premium

I was able to spend some hands-on time with the LG Optimus Elite at the recent EcoFocus event in New York, a press event where vendors showcase their greenest gadgets. Expected to hit Sprint stores in time for Earth Day 2012 (Sunday, April 22), LG proudly trumpets the Optimus Elite's ultra-environmental pedigree, which the company says meets the tough UL Environment Platinum standard. … Read more

Sprint touts ecocentric LG Optimus Elite

Apple likes to boast about its Earth-friendly products that it strives to build with minimum impact to the planet. Sprint's new LG Optimus Elite, however, could give the iPhone a run for its money -- at least in the green department.

LG claims the Optimus Elite uses a casing that's crafted from 50 percent recycled plastic and is ULE Platinum-certified, the most stringent label awarded by the UL environmental body. The company also says the handset doesn't contain harmful materials such as PVC plastics, phthalates, halogens, or mercury. … Read more

Software Deal of the week: Save 50% on HotSpot Shield Elite

Do you ever sit at a cafe that provides you with a free Wi-Fi connection? I often work from cafes and airports, where I connect to the free public Wi-Fi that is provided to me, but little did I know, I was an easy prey for hackers and snoopers to access my personal information.

Many of you probably already know the difference between HTTP and HTTPS, but some of you may not, so I'll go over that a little bit here. If you are just browsing around the internet, HTTP will do, which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. Not … Read more

Modern Warfare 3 DLC coming to Call of Duty Elite users

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's first downloadable content (DLC) release is coming next month, game developer Infinity Ward has announced.

Speaking on the Call of Duty Elite Web show "Roll Call," Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling said the DLC will be made available to Xbox Live users on January 24, Joystiq reported today. As in previous Call of Duty DLC launches, the content will be made available on the PlayStation 3 and PC at a later point. Bowling didn't say when that might be.

However, before the game's players get too excited, beware … Read more

Big Ice Cream Sandwich, Windows Phone releases from HTC?

A new Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone with Beats Audio, and the first major 4G Windows Phone handset, are coming from HTC in 2012, according to a report out this morning.

Boy Genius Report says a "trusted source" tells the blog that it's all part of a plan to switch up the company's strategy a bit in the New Year, beginning with the "HTC Titan-like" LTE Windows Phone on AT&T, currently set for a February 5 release, according to BGR. In addition, Boy Genius says a new handset called the HTC Elite … Read more

Sharp Elite review: Overpriced, but best picture quality since Kuro

In the United States these days the word "Elite" has a negative connotation evoking snooty haves vs. gritty have-nots, Wall Street vs. Main Street, and them vs. us. The Sharp Elite PRO-X5FD won't do much to dispel those associations.

This ridiculously expensive television is basically "The wealthiest 1 percent" distilled into flat-panel TV form, and we're betting very few of the 99 percent will splurge on one, especially with perfectly excellent alternatives available for half the price or less.

But if you're reading this review, you couldn't care less. What you came … Read more

$9.4 million iPhone 4S is one garish gadget

Anyone who bought this $2.5 million iPhone should consider upgrading to the latest lavish technology, the iPhone 4S Elite Gold from bling king Stuart Hughes.

Stuart Hughes already dazed the world with an $8 million iPad. The only way to top that was with a $9.4 million iPhone 4S. For that price, Stuart Hughes should be offering an iPhone 5.

This is what you get when you plunk down that chunk of your rock star salary:… Read more

Find folks with Elite People Search

We have to admit that we were skeptical when we first downloaded Elite People Search. We've seen similar programs before, and they typically turn out to be spammy wastes of time. Much to our surprise and delight, however, Elite People Search actually works. It's not perfect, but it does a decent job of quickly locating people without any advertising or other hassles.

The program's interface is plain and straightforward. Users enter the state and then either the city or county they want to search. Next, enter the person you want to search for, including any variations. For … Read more

Hotspot Shield now protects iPhones

Known for offering free anonymising protection to Windows and Mac users, the Wi-Fi protection program Hotspot Shield (download) launched today for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It's the first mobile move for parent company AnchorFree.

Calling itself the world's most popular Virtual Private Network (VPN), with 9 million to 10 million unique monthly users, the iOS version of Hotspot Shield offers the same encrypted IP address anonymising and bandwidth compression that the program's Windows and Mac users get.

This means that all Web browsing would be conducted over the safer HTTPS. By rerouting Web traffic and … Read more
