The National Security Agency eavesdropped on the Mexico government by systematically infiltrating an e-mail server and hacking the e-mail account of a former Mexico president, according to a classified documents reviewed by Der Spiegel.
The e-mail domain, which was also used by other members of Mexico's cabinet, contained "diplomatic, economic and leadership communications which continue to provide insight into Mexico's political system and internal stability," according to a 2010 report provided to the German newspaper by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The hack of former president Felipe Calderon's e-mail was conducted by an agency department called … Read more
The National Security Agency is collecting hundreds of millions of contact lists from e-mail and instant message accounts from around the world, according to a Washington Post report.
The collection, which was revealed in documents supplied by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, occurs when Internet services transmit the data, typically when users log in, compose a message, or sync devices, the Post reported Monday. The agency is said to analyze that data to identify hidden connections among foreign intelligence targets.
The agency collects an estimated 500,000 buddy lists on chat services and Web-based e-mail every day, according to an internal … Read more

One of the biggest complaints echoed by many iOS users since the introduction of iMessage and FaceTime with iOS 5 has been the inability to block people.
All it would take was one person getting your iMessage or FaceTime phone number or e-mail address, and you were an open target to constant messages and calls.
With iOS 6 Apple added the ability to silence messages originating from addresses not stored in your Contacts, but there was still no way to block a user.
LinkedIn is being accused of hacking into its members' e-mail accounts. In a new class action lawsuit, plaintiffs allege that the professional social network broke into their external e-mail accounts, accessed their address books, and then sent marketing information to their contacts.
LinkedIn has been "appropriating the names, photographs, likenesses, and identities of Plaintiffs to advertise its products and services for a commercial purpose without Plaintiffs' consent, for unfair and deceptive business practices," the complaint (PDF) reads. "LinkedIn provides no functional way to stop multiple subsequent advertising emails from being sent."

Outlook.com is a pretty good Web mail service, but ever since it debuted earlier this year, users have been clamoring for one feature: IMAP.
That's because, unlike the POP protocol, IMAP syncs with third-party mail clients. Translation: When you access your Outlook.com inbox on, say, your desktop e-mail client, any messages you read, send, reply to, or delete get synced back to your account. It's a much more practical way to deal with e-mail.
To get things set up in Windows, you'll need to add your Outlook.com account to your preferred mail client. I'… Read more

"I know I shouldn't, but I will."
Such a thought has, over many centuries, been the precursor to explosions, amputations, marriages, and most of my previous relationships.
Thankfully, it is an impulse that seems to be shared by so many Americans that tears may shortly come to your eyes in sheer relief.
For I am in possession of research suggesting that many Americans just can't help opening spam e-mails, even though they know they're spam.
In this research, nearly one-third of respondents admitted that, at some time or other, they had opened an e-mail that … Read more
